Scouting report on Georgia

The key to beating Georgia is attacking their secondary. However, Georgia is not bereft of talent. Their pass rush has potential and athleticism but is not consistent. If Missouri's offensive line can play to their potential Franklin has a chance to have a big day. The big question is can Georgia pressure Franklin?

At LB,they have athleticism on the outside, but they don't have anything elite inside. Georgia's outside linebackers seem to overcompensate for their inside linebackers inefficiencies and leave space on the outside by crashing down to stuff the inside game. Missouri should have success with plays designed to bounce to the outside, especially slants and fade routes.

Their secondary has athleticism at the safety level, but the corners struggle. Their safeties have skill, but they're hindered by having to do too much to overcome the deficiencies at corner.

Georgia's offensive strength is obviously Gurley and Marshall. Those two are as good as they come. Gurley, purely from a physical, talent standpoint, is likely the best running back in the country. Marshall is also very good at receiving the ball out of the backfield on swing or wheel routes. He is very hard to tackle in space.

The real key to their offense, however, is Murray, and the real key to Murray is the first 20 minutes or so of the game. If you allow Murray to get in a rhythm and get comfortable, he will pick you apart. The key is getting to him early and often.

Murray is ranked 15th in the country. He has completed 65% of his passes for 1534 yards with 14 TD's and just 3 INTs.


How Missouri compares to Georgia.

Georgia is 17th in the nation with 315 passing yards a game. Missouri is 32nd with 285 yards a game.

Georgia is 27th in the nation rushing with 214 yards a game. Missouri is 15th in the nation rushing with 258.8 yards a game.

Georgia is 24th in the nation scoring 39.8 points a game. Missouri is 8th in the nation scoring a hefty 46.6 points a game.

Georgia is 95th in the nation allowing 32.2 points a game. Missouri is 41st in the nation allowing 22.4 points a game.

The biggest difference Georgia and Missouri going into this game is Georgia has beaten two ranked teams, South Carolina and LSU. However, Georgia looked pedestrian against Tennessee in an overtime thriller this past weekend.

The similarities between the two teams points to a another shootout between the hedges in Athens this weekend. Missouri is very capable of taking Georgia behind the hedges and beating them and maybe, just maybe, we will see the team we all thought we would see last season.
