I have a weird feeling that Pinkel is gone regardless.

Bad year: Fired or retired

Decent year (7 or 8 wins): Stay or retire 50/50

Great year (10+ games): Leaves for better program and bigger paycheck

I think he's too old to re-build somewhere else

I don't see this happening. He's in his early 60's.

Besides, if he rights the ship, he has a chance at being all-time here.

The guy has made some mistakes in the past, and I think we all started to question him after last season. He has a system, and he believes in it, to a fault at times, but he owns it.

He sort of reminds me of Dick Vermeil during the Rams SB run, he made some changes to his gameday/practice philosophy and it changed everything. GP seems to have been receptive to some suggestions from people around him and even fans, and to his credit he made some changes. We should all appreciate that.

I'll freely admit that I for one believed he should have gone last year, especially if he refused to replace Yost. Injuries aside, the game plans were a mess during the Yost era.

So, anyway, no I don't think he goes anywhere, unless they bomb the rest of the way. But, I don't see that happening either.

Too old to leave and I honestly don't think he would leave Mizzou for another school (but his wife thought that too and look how that turned out). I can see him retiring in the coming years, but that is the only way he leaves Mizzou.

Nope, Mizzou is his last head coaching job.

Maybe he'll take over as AD if Alden wants to move on someday.

No doubt. He would have likely never landed an SEC job without the
move, so this is his chance to show he can hang with the big boys.

So he's not going anywhere, N-kay?

I don't understand why you all keep talking about him leaving. Mizzou would be in a bad situation if he left. It would be hello 90's again...

He isn't leaving for a bigger program. Those days passed him a while back. He doesn't want to start over at this point in his career.

If he leaves, he's going to Washington and that's it. He spent so long at UDub under Don James including seven years as OC, it wouldn't be a rebuild if Sarkisian goes to USC, and Seattle is a million times better than Columbia.

That being said, I don't think he goes anywhere.

As an outsider, I really think you guys should keep Pinkel. When you get rid of someone who maintains stability, you run a major risk of getting someone worse than him. You don't want to end up like Tennessee

PInkel's contract is through 2017. That would be the longest he'd continue coaching, IMO. At that point, he'd be mid-60s, and ready to retire. He may retire prior to that, but definitely then.

Obviously Alden's preference would be to have him keep us highly competitive and retire on his own terms. If we continue in this vein, that'll happen.

So, everyone believes that is he is highly successful going forward, there is ZERO chance he would leave for a more prestigious program and a significant bump in pay?

I do think that if you could get Petrino interested, you fire the frick out of Pinkel and hire him

BB, with all due respect here - I don't think you know our AD. I van't see him hiring someone with Petrino's baggage. Alden is big on character and PR, and doing the things the right way - at least, that's his goal. Not saying it could never happen, but put it up there with snowstorms in New Orleans, and Petrino would never be #1 on his list.

I completely understand not hiring him, fwiw. I would never want him here tbh, but he is a hell of a coach and I think could really take Mizzou farther than he took Arkansas

I just don't think he has starting over in him, especially after last season. I think he retires a Tiger.

With the way the offense is progressing I really think Henson has a shot to be head coach. If Pinkel wins 8-10 games (8 is the expectation now. Anything less I feel is a total collapse) I think its easy to keep him and possibly say Henson is the Coach in waiting.

I say Washington in the 1 in 100 chance he leaves Mizzou.

If Coach Pinkel has shown us anything it's that he's completely averse to almost any sort of change.
