There is a problem with the USC football team, but it's not the one that I've been reading people chime in on. What's going on isn't so much on the defense as people think. We've allowed 28 points this season on botched Special Teams play's turnovers, and at least 6 times we sacrificed field position for the attempt to run it out on either punts or kickoffs.

Add with that we are about last in the nation on punting and a picture starts emerging. We aren't putting our defense in situations to succeed consistently b/c of poor play on Special Teams.

When a guy fumbles once on a kickoff, it happens, however, when it's happening almost every game and we are avg'ing below 25 yards a return (b/c a touchback is worth 25,) there's a huge problem.

If we start fixing the issues consistently, I guarandamntee you we'll start performing better defensively.

Ellis and Lawing were awesome about teaching fundamentals. Last year, our Special Teams play was actually pretty great, and Coach Robinson led that unit then too. What's going on now is the players aren't consistently executing fundamentals on Special Teams, so Robinson needs to make adjustments to whatever he's doing, b/c it isn't working.

Yea was going to post something a very similar post. The defense is going to suffer even more so if special teams keep putting them in bad positions.

I agree in the fact that special teams have put the defense in some tough spots. But the defense has definitely fallen off a little bit from last season no question. Personally I think when it comes to special teams we should just fair catch every punt & take a knee/touchback on every kickoff.

I agree with all of this except the part about the D has fallen off just a little bit. The defense is night and day but special teams is anything but special. We don't need to non fair catch a punt or leave the end zone with a kick off again until next year. Bottom line, no excuses our returners suck balls and are a major liability.

I disagree special teams are very special right now, I mean like aluminum medal in the special Olympics special!

Yes the special teams have put our D in tough situations but that doesn't excuse the 10+ play 60-80 yard drives against them either. I mean Bruce has even botched special teams play this year.

Fundamentals will go along way to helping with the lack of discipline our young team exhibits.

My cousin in Columbia has down syndrome so I didn't go there. I'm also not going to argue with you but I won't say that. As I'm sure you can understand why.
