Thanks CheeseGrits! Just now noticed the sign in the crowd: "Ger Ders". I guess the Ermahgerd is silent...

I've watched university tennis, lacrosse, track, swimming, basketball, football, and, once, baseball. But I wasn't even aware there was a bowling team until just now. Is this a relatively new thing? I'm on the official athletic site as I type this (the phrase 'hot women bowlers' occurs to me for, perhaps, the first time in my life )but there's no mention of the history of the program.

Also, while we're touching on this area, am I the only one who wishes Vanderbilt would implement a gymnastics program?

They won the National Championship when Bush was in office. New facilities were supposed to open but did not get there for the opening.

Dores need Gymnastics for sure but they really need Volleyball (only SEC school without a team and it screws up scheduling) and Softball. While they have a good club equestrian team it would really be good to have an NCAA one.

Heh. We had a game thread for the finals with the Husker chicks last year. Actually was quite entertaining, though it's not something I would want to watch very often.

It can be fun to catch live - probably helps if you know the kids or their parents - but at least it was on ESPN so we could do that thread. I am worried if all that stuff goes to SEC TV with this new ESPN deal and they charge so high folks don't pick it up. They really should have this type stuff as free to build audiences.

What I hate is they keep telling you to call your cable provider but fail to mention what it will cost.

They won the NC in bowling my freshman year. It was so much fun seeing the campus party for a bowling game. Also, I had no idea we had an equestrian team. Shouldn't be surprised.

Club sport, but the women are hot

Only 4 SEC schools have NCAA sanctioned equestrian teams
Georgia
South Carolina
Auburn
Texas A&M

I did know about the equestrians. I was actually surprised it was just club, not intercollegiate. Wonder what the investment by the university would have to be to get it set up competitively? Probably higher than one might think, given they'd be obligated to provide and maintain the stable (that would fall under "equipment," I imagine) unless equestrian teams regularly ride on personally-owned horses.

Some clubs are actually better than the NCAA teams due to NCAA rules. The clubs have less restrictions because they may have a more international governing body. Only one 4 star event in North America that I am aware of. Most of the big things are outside the US and the NCAA just covers the US. I think almost every SEC school has at least a club.

The schools balk at the money but they forget the daddy's who wind up making big donations to their little girls alma mater. As for the horses and stable, not as hard to open those money doors when you are starting out with folks who have money in the first place. Not hard to get horses, tack, board, and vet work donated.

In case you missed it, the ladies took out #1 ASU today

Praire View Invitational may not sound like much but #1 ASU was there as were the Huskers. Time for the Dores to make another deep NCAA run fast approaching.

#8 Vanderbilt will compete in the Kat Klash Friday-Sunday hosted by #7 Sam Houston State at the Palace Lanes in Houston.

There are 22 teams entered although the storm ravaging the east coast might result in a team or two being unable to travel. The entrants include #1 Arkansas State, #2 Nebraska, #3 Fairleigh Dickinson, #4 Maryland-Eastern Shore, #6 Stephen F. Austin, and #9 Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Ger Ders!!

Trying to find stats from the Kat Klash but just not good data out there. First 2 days were good, but it appears the ladies only took 2 of 5 matches on Sunday so the final was probably not great.

This bowling team has been a real roller coaster this season, but with the end in sight they need to put in 3 solid days per weekend to make that final push for the NCAA. Huskers are good again this year and them gals are really corn fed!

Some Nebraska fatback

Some lean, mean Vandy fightin machines

ps, am I one of the only folks who is always highly amused that Fairleigh Dickinson seems to always have a top flight bowling team?
