Before the season started, a lot of people were saying Hubbard had a chance to be really good and potentially drafted pretty highly if he could put everything together. How is he progressing overall?

Has Devall officially passed Dickson on the depth chart and is Dickson even playing Jack anymore?

Devall is like an Upshaw clone.

Hubbard has been very good against the run and also good in pass coverage IMO. His pass rush seems about what is was last year which is meh. Devall is playing well but hasn't stood out besides the strip-sack against Ole Miss. The good news is that we're starting to get real pressure with the DL which somewhat mitigates the lack of an elite pass rusher at OLB.

Sabans system does not truly highlight OLBs. I think this is why he has a hard time getting the elite guys to commit.

He's noticeably better, but he isn't getting sacks yet. He's always one step away from banging them home. He's had three TFL though (all were counted as .5 a TFL), and his run D and contain is superb.

I see Dickson on the field more than Devall, it seems. May just be a coincidence to when I look.

I know Devall got the 2 sacks, and I seem to remember him being out there a lot.

Yes it does. Jason Taylor's best season in the NFL came as an OLB in Saban's defense.

We just haven't had an elite pure passrusher. They all want to play DE in a 4-3 because that is what they are comfortable doing. The staff is starting to wise up though. Christian Miller is the kind of guy you need to recruit if you want to find a 10-12 sack player at OLB.

I still feel like Jon Allen would have given us a lot at Jack, but it seems as if he's gonna just be a DL.

He came in at 260 pounds without any bad weight. He was going to grow into a DE eventually anyway. I would rather the coaches go ahead and acknowledge it than have him learn the OLB position only to move to DE after a year or two on campus.
