David Williams

With Shon Carson grossly under achieving and Kendrick Salley clearly not going to get even a shot ... do the coaches go ahead and pull the redshirt off of Williams?

I think the keep the status quo ATM, we have a small run of weaker sec opponent's and I think they will hold redshirt unless they have no choice but to break it. Davis can carry load with Shon filling in a play or two until Wilds can make it back.

Did he even have an official RedShirt? I saw him warm up in jersey/pads/helmet at the UNC game. He hasn't played yet, but he's been dressing to play if needed.

I think if he's the best RB out of Carson/Salley/Williams then he should play. Wilds will miss a couple weeks. If Williams is the truth, he will only be here 3 years anyways.

I don't think there's any point in redshirting Rbs. If they're good enough to play they won't stay all five years and if their not... there's no point in having them around for five years (unless depth is an issue... which it is clearly not).

I agree with this. Carson is obviously done after this season as well so might as well get Williams some experience so hes ready to be a regular part of the rotation this year

re: David Williams

Spurrier said today that David Williams is going to play against Kentucky. He's a faster version of Brandon Wilds, but probably not as strong. This should be exciting to watch.

I was coming to post that ... I actually knew it was coming as of Sunday but wanted to let them make it official.

They had pretty much decided on it before they left Orlando from what I understand.

I'm pretty excited. I got to see him in practice once or twice, running with the scout team, and he has serious potential. He is very fast for a guy his size. I think he is going to surprise some people how physical he is for a true freshman as well.

Word I got yesterday is that Carson's attitude has gone so far south that there is now doubt he's even going to make it through the rest of this season.

In the meantime Williams will play Saturday, as everyone already knows, but I found Mike Davis' comment comparing him to Adrian Peterson interesting.

Wow if true, dude can only blame himself. He's been given plenty of chances, the line has in fact blocked for him. He's the one fricking up on knowing the play and going no where. Someone tweet him about an opening on the Kick/Punt return.

Carson has prima donna syndrom.

As of today he has been told, "make the most out of the chances you get tomorrow ..."

Take it for what it is worth.

How do you contract PMS as a regular JoeI guess I could see it if he were the #1 back out of high school or something. Or maybe even if he was from a football factory. Or possibly if he's last name were Geathers. But he's an athlete from BFE who got a shot at SEC football because he could play decent to good baseball if memory serves me right. Someone correct me on that please. Guy needs a reality check. With Wilds out he's gotten his shot.

This is indeed his shot, but he's had some setbacks along the way. He was going to get to play his first year hear, but hurt his knee against uga and lost the season. Then he got hurt in camp last year and lost the season ( I think it was something on his wrist or arm.)

He was actually both a highly sought after FB and BB recruit. he was an Under Armor All American selection for baseball, and he had many offers. Rivals had him as a 4star RB recruit rated nationally in the 20's for the position. He was All State at both his baseball and football positions.

I myself thought he was going to come in and be a Jeff Demps kinda guy, he ran an electronic timed 4.28 at a Rivals camp, so I always pictured him as our 3rd down and long RB, or better.

Though his injuries obviously impacted his career here at USC, the other talent we have at the RB position has impacted it just as much. Wilds got a bunch of PT 2 years ago, so he became a known asset. He's also bigger than Carson and has the body that can take more hits. Then you add on Davis who is a complete RB, and you can see why Carson was 3rd string coming into the season.

Now it's his chance. The coaches today will play David and Shon, probably see who does better and that guy will get more carries as long as Wilds is out.
