So Verne's contract is up this year, but Brando wants the gig?

As it was just told by Finebaum on the radio. (so, no link)

Maybe this is old news, but it is the first I have heard of it.

and to think I wanted Verne to retire, maybe I need to reconsider.

Verne won't retire. He eats too good on the road. Hell bring Holtz in to do PBP with Gary having to translate...... that would be entertaining.

What a disastor that would be. I don't respect anyman who gives himself such a lofty nickname.

As much as he gets names and etc wrong, it will be strange not hearing his voice during the games. I like his enthusiasm and the way he sounds, but he does butcher a lot of his commentating. Regardless, won't feel right without him for a while.

The way Verne talks about Alabama is so biased. So annoying to have to listen to on tv. He was so happy in the first half of the 2010 Iron Bowl.

Brando is not pro-Bama enough to get the gig.

And Verne damn near chokes with excitement every time Bama does something good. His crush on Saban is weird.

I like Verne, don't like Gary. And I dislike Brando about the same amount as I dislike Gary. Could do without both of them.

Brando is a fantastic basketball PBP guy. I'd be ok with it as long as he lets Gary handle the "commentary"

I think brando would be a great choice. It would make Bama fans happy, and he's pretty unbiased.

I enjoy Brando in the studio and on the radio, but I'm not a big fan of his football play by play. He's been doing the Saints preseason games for the last few years and it has always been pretty meh.

I liked Ron Franklin. ESPN did him the wrong way.

He was one of the best.

He may know basketball, but he's worse than Holly Rowe when it comes to football. I would rather watch a Bill Curry, Holly Rowe, Lou Holtz broadcast crew for a game than listen to Brando.

How is that possible? Verne is horrible while Gary is one of the best commentators around.
