Just posted this on reddit, so why not here. This douchebag and a few others were close to us. Had exactly one good encounter with RU fans. The rest were fricking counts.

Your experiences? Cause I'm never going back.

Its goddamned New Jersey.

Its rough, crude, ugly, crowded, and lacks any personality or character whatsoever.

I'd be pretty angry if life stuck me there, too.

To be fair, there was an entire thread on a Rutgers board about how incredibly nice and friendly our fans were to them in Fayetteville last year.

They were freaking douchebag Yankees for the most part. A few good ones, the rest were terrible.

Their fans went out of their way to be dicks. We're talking 20+ encounters of getting called names, flipped off, or hearing obscenities cast down about my fiancée.

This was nothing like the typical "few bad apples" in every fanbase...

Well, Yankees are like hemorrhoids, when they come down and go back up, they are not a problem, its when they come down and stay they become a problem.

I ran across several people from the northeast while I was in the military and they are a different breed. Not all but a lot of them are wound up tight and talk shite all of the time.

We had this one fricker from Jersey that was 120lbs soaking wet but he thought he was the shite. One day we have a company meeting to stress the security of our rooms, because someone from an infantry company knocked on this dudes door and when he answered they laid his arse out. His nickname was knock knock punch after that.

My experience was actually pretty good. Now, granted, this may be because we didn't spend a lot of time walking around the tailgates - pretty much went straight from the shuttle into the stadium. Everyone we talked to was very nice. We got a few comments from a group of students on the way out, but nothing you wouldn't get in the SEC.

However, aside from NYC, there is absolutely no reason to go back. Stadium was only 3/4 full and they had piped in music on a bad sound system the whole game. Atmosphere was nothing like what I expect at a college football game. The third down air guitar was ridiculous.

I will say it was pretty loud for the amount of people. Just reinforces how much we need to enclose the NEZ.

I'm glad to hear your experience with the Rutgers fans wasn't too bad. I was wondering about that since the handful of times I've been around Jersey folks it was less than pleasurable, to put it nicely.

No offense to whatever polite NJ citizens might exist.

I guess we just happened to stumble into the drunkiest of the drunk or something.

But yeah, it was pretty comical how empty the stadium was for being such a HUGE home game for them. It's not like it's a huge place or anything.

But you're right about the sound. When they wanted to, it got pretty loud.

I have read a few comments about some Hog fans going through something call "The Most Pit." Apparently that's where the worst of it was.

Mike Irwin is over on HiV gushing about the atmosphere...I was less than impressed.

Still a GREAT weekend in NYC. Good lord, the FOOD!

I had a really good time and met some cool Rutgers fans. My wife and I walked around the blue lot trying to find some Arkansas fans we met at Stuff Yer Face who said they would be there, but it was just a sea of Rutgers fans and it was like finding a needle in a haystack. Some RU fans saw us walking around and offered us beer, and we ended up spending several hours hanging out and playing beer pong. They offered us some second row sideline tickets but we passed on them because I prefer sitting higher up where I can see plays develop. Oh, and some other RU fans actually led us from the shuttle to the blue lot, which was really nice because it was probably a mile walk from where we started.

I only had a couple of bad experiences and they were pretty 'meh'. It was mostly a case of people being drunk and being a bit too pumped up about the comeback win, I think.

In one instance, two guys were walking next to us as we left the stadium and were talking about the game. They were talking about how CLEARLY the SEC isn't as good as it seems, sure they've won recent championships, but it's all Alabama and Florida, and lately it's just been Alabama!!! I normally don't butt in, but I couldn't help myself, so I interjected, "...and LSU, and Auburn." Really dude? The most tragic thing about all of this is that Rutgers caught us at the absolute worst time--during the JLS and rebuilding year.

The other negative experience was some young guy, obviously a student and probably a freshman or sophomore, who saw my Razorback gear while I was walking back to the train who shouted something to the effect of, "WOOAUGGHHUUUFH blargha bglrgh SEC pussies!!!! [condescendingly] Enjoy the trip home." I just laughed at that one.

The bad stuff was pretty mild in my personal experience.

Yeah the stadium was definitely not full. The corners in the lower deck were maybe 60% full in the second half. It got loud, I guess, but it was a poor showing.

I agree that most of the negativity came from students after the game. I didn't have any problems at all before the game. The guy who was clueless about college football and the SEC was some older guy, probably in his 50s or early 60s.

I think the worst thing about the fans is that they clearly thought they upset a big bad SEC team, and didn't realize that they were actually the favorites. Just people not really knowing WTF was going on. They didn't offend me as an Arkansas fan, they offended me as a college football fan.

I have to say that I impressed a Hog fan sitting in front of me. My NYC friend didn't know too much about football, so I was explaining the concept of a safety (don't remember why).

Dude in front of me was clearly impressed that a girl knew the various ways to get a safety.
