Heads up to the LSU fans headed to Athens. ACCPD has been stationed at this intersection for years. If you are parking outside of the campus, walking down the sidewalk, they will sniff your cup and if any alcohol is smelled they will issue you a citation.

If you have a purple solo filled with aged nutria and they want a wiff...

Wtf? How do all these rumors get started...police sniffing your cup? Get outta here.

During SC I walked all over campus and into downtown with a box of beer and a dixie cup full of it and had no issues. Don't act a fool, act like a normal adult, and have your drink in a cup and you'll be fine.

WG,

It's hit or miss. I've never seen a cop smell a cup before but I have been with people that got tickets walking downtown to a tailgate with a mixed drink. That said, I walked with a natty in the can through downtown USC weekend so it really depends on the cop and how lazy they are I guess.

Or what colors you're wearing. Especially true at UF.

Biggest crock of shite I've heard in a long time.

I've walked through that intersection many times on gameday, as I generally park at the apartment complex across the street.

I've never seen cops there (or anywhere) sniffing drinks.

That's just stupid.

As far as open container laws, they are overlooked on campus on gamedays as long as you look like you are of age and aren't starting trouble.

Same on the streets of Athens, pre-game, in a solo cup. But after the game, they start to crack down if you step off campus with an open container.

They are standing at the corner of the BP gas station. I've seen it too many times, where they will stop a pedestrian and smell his cup tell him to pour it out and issue them a citation.

Nailing students emerging/converging from Frat Row, no doubt.

Oh it's the baseball field road. I walked by there every game last year and never had a problem. Although a cop was ready to write me a ticket once on the way/question me for underage since I look young until he realized my beer can wasn't actually open and I was saving it until I stepped on campus

Maybe kids who look like they're freshmen or who are being wild and out of control or walking in the street in front of cars. As long as I've been going to games, I've never seen an adult walking casually and responsibly down the sidewalk with a dixie cup and get questioned. Much less have it sniffed and then given a ticket.

Nope, not kids. If you are on the other side of Lumpkin where it's churches, there is no ACCPD. They get them right before they cross Pinecrest which is UGA property (track).

This is wrong. UGA is State property, thus you can ALWAYS have an open container on campus. Any day of the week. Athens-Clarke has a no open container law, thus they ticket you when not on campus.

Huh? So I can go sit and drink at the steps of the State Capitol?

I at least appreciate his willingness to warn visiting fans about a potential checkpoint than do nothing.
