The True Scheduling Disadvantage

Any SEC team that wants to make it to the national championship can count on playing at least 2 Top 15 opponents beforehand. The East and West are stacked with 3 teams apiece that typically will be ranked in the Top 20. A year or two from now, Auburn and Ole Miss may greatly improve the strength of the West division.
Now, the real point of this topic is to examine the advantages of being Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford, Clemson, Florida State, or Oklahoma. All these teams play in conferences that usually only produce two legit Top 15 teams max. These teams have found a way to fail to meet their national championship ambitions each season, but that won't always happen. Eventually, 1 or 2 varying teams from this pool might regularly begin taking care of business in their top-heavy conferences and going to the national championship off a pathetic schedule. During those years, SEC teams could have the greater strength of schedule but they will be facing teams that are more talented and better coached which will make it incredibly tough to finish the season without a loss or two. This hurts the SEC's chances in the future of running the table and making it to the national championship game.
Fortunately, there will be a 4-team playoff, but we don't even know who will make up the selection committee yet. There's a good chance that we could have a situation like last season where Florida jumps a team that beat them in the rankings after the SEC Championship game. Last year, Florida probably would have earned the nod over Georgia to compete in a 4-team playoff. Is this right? I'll let you decide.
I made this topic to take the focus away from Alabama and Texas A&M's schedules and focus on how the entire league could get screwed in the future. Our conference is not getting weaker. LSU finally has everything in place to field great offenses and defenses. Ole Miss is on the rise and Auburn is reawakening. Eventually, there may be 4 legit. teams in the SEC East. Last season, the SEC looked like a 6-team league with Ole Miss and Vanderbilt leading the middle tier afterwards. Next year, I predict it could look more like an 8 team league.
No other conference has 8 teams with a legit claim for the Top 25. No other conference can match the coaching and talent found in the SEC. This is the toughest and best league in the FBS, and that shouldn't change in the next few years. Foundations are being laid right now for continued success after a few of the current coaching regimes move on. It's great to be a fan of an SEC program, but the future holds both good and bad.
Keep up the progress and represent the league well. Roll Tide!

The best four teams from the West are Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Tx A&M. Look up those four teams East division opponents.
Good job by the SEC office in Birmingham to skip the UGA/Bama rotation on the schedule the last two years.

SCAR will take care of Clemson and Florida will do the same to FSU.
Does that cause you pause here your above theory is concerned?

The committee doing the NCAA playoff selection should be instructed not to take into account ANY poll that is published prior to the 7th week of the season.
On a separate note, the members of the SEC scheduling committee should be castrated. Then shot.

Very well thought out and written. It seems the idea of forcing parity to the BCS Championship has arrived.

It's a good thread, but it isn't trolling anyone, so no one will care.

I honestly don't think the bitching about schedules will stop until we get to a 9 game conference schedule.

Don't feed em, they can get a little...crazy.

I knew when I saw the title what this would be about, and that no matter how well you made the argument, you would get multiple responses about Alabama getting an easy SEC schedule. That's the rant.
The truth is both. All the contenders from the SEC have a scheduling disadvantage to the others, and among these, Alabama and A&M have a scheduling advantage over LSU, UGA, and Florida. LSU has the toughest road, having to play all 4 of the others.

what the frick are you trying to say? This is like a documentary on Daoism.
the SEC champion will get a chance based on SOS, and if not, what can you do about it?
if the SEC doesn't make the playoff somehow, that will just look like a jab to the SEC more than a failure.
Are you really that OCD that losing something you don't compete in bothers you?

Yes Florida earned the right.
Georgia 1-2 vs ranked teams
Florida 4-1
Georgia deserved the SECCG nod by conference rules
But Florida would have earned the four team bid over ANY one loss team not named Bama.

This isn't the dumbest post ever on the rant, but it may be the dumbest by someone who actually thinks he has a point to make.

No they won't. They don't go by BCS rankings. The national media won't rate teams that don't win their divisions highly and the selection committee won't let them in either. Everyone is really naive if they think the SEC is going to get two teams in every year.
