LSU acknowledges 1935, 1936 poll titles without going "full Bama"

For those of you who haven't been on campus in the last few days, it looks like LSU is going to finish up the plaques commemorating the 11 SEC championships

I have to admit, it sort of threw me off seeing the school actually acknowledge the "mythical" titles of 1935 and 1936. There's no doubt that LSU had tremendous seasons both years, but it seemed like the athletic department had always talked about the seasons for what they were: SEC championships, followed by losses in the Sugar Bowl. It seemed like the fact that these teams were awarded national titles was always going to be an end note on wikipedia.
Then I realized something: this is actually the perfect way to recognize those teams' accomplishments. It's not like we're putting up flags and memorials saying "LSU: 1936 National Champions." By putting up information outside the stadium like that, we get to tell everyone that somebody thought we were the number one team in the country that year, even if the people who did weren't the foremost authorities on college football at the time.
I love it. It's a great memorial to a great team, and it adheres to the cardinal rule: you never go full 'Bama.

While the article takes a shot at Bama, I think A&M would be the far more appropriate school to take a shot at. Even without Bama's questionable claims (1941) they still have a shitton more than LSU. A&M? Not so much.
Nobody, not even Ole Miss, would ever go full Aggie.

Id rather have another Saban to Texas thread.

we do have about 5 that we do not claim; several of them are better than 1941.
Bottom line is... doesn't matter what criteria you pick, we have the most

GFY, yes we would.

LSU finished runner-up in the first AP poll to Minnesota, but took national championship honors in the Williamson poll for the second straight year.
Congrats on officially, retroactively, recognizing your NC.

I believe I noted that in my own comments following the quotes from the article.
Aggie is the one who truly looks desperate with their claims which have been pretty much universally lampooned.

Posts news of a title being recognized without going Full Bama.
Proceeds to show an example of how the school went Half Bama.
Backs up claim with a photo of Texas A&M's stadium, ostensibly because, "aggy's worse."

Providing context on an uber verbose monument that has "SEC Champions" and not "National Champions" in bold and on top is not quite the same as what Aggie did, now is it?

More like presented someone else's viewpoint and then proceeded to make my own observations.
I thought this was a place to converse about things going on in the world.

But the text of said monument, points out they are awarded back to back NC's by a single selector. Thus claiming at least a share of a NC. Otherwise, no mention would have been made.

No, this is a place where you get flamed to shite for trying to start a thread on a subject.
In this case, one in which you should have known exactly how it would turn out.
That being said, LSU fans' room to ridicule 'Bama fans for our title claims just eroded. Badly.

If the point of said monument was to proclaim ourselves National Champions, we really went to great pains to bury the lede.
