We, the SEC fans will take and own that Tennessee loss at Oregon. We will own a rebuilding awful Vols squad losing big to a top 5 NC contending Oregon squad. We will take that.

But...

The Pac 12 needs to then own the Oregon State loss to Eastern Washington.

Tennessee lost to a top 5 FBS team on the road. The Beavers lost to an FCS team at home.

So, if the Tennessee loss means the SEC now sucks, which is what was implied (not said but implied and we all know that is true), then using that logic, the Pac 12 is as god awful as the Sun Belt.

Maybe next time you national media types will think about what you say before you say it. Or, maybe you won't.

Then EWU got blown out by Toledo while OSU was beating Utah and Hawaii.

That's kind of an apples to oranges comparison. The SEC has crowed about and been considered the top conference in college football for at least a decade as evidenced by the last 7 titles the conference has won. The Vols are still considered one of the top tier SEC programs although they have been a train wreck for the last 5 years. So the perception is that a PAC 2 team beat a big, bad top tier SEC school badly. Even though everyone in the SEC knows the Vols didn't have a chance in hell of winning that game.

PAC-12 teams don't do the whole conference pride thing the SEC does so why would they claim that. Personally, I hope every other SEC team loses every OOC game they play.

You know, I would think Auburn fans of all people would understand the importance of the conference looking good against non conference opposition.

If the SEC had the reputaion is has now back in 2004, Auburn does not get shut out of the NC game and probably wins the National Championship.

I can understanding not cheering for them or whatever, but I don't understand the mindset of hoping they all lose. It makes zero sense in the grand scheme of things.

More wins by other SEC schools equates to more money for AU.

I agree 100%. I think it's a stupid way to analyze conferences, but since the national media wanted to go there, I went there.

Depends on the matchup (though I'd be fine with UGA shitting the bed as often as possible).

That would be so awesome! You know, to play in the worst conference in the country against crappy teams every week. No ranked matchups. It would be like playing in Conference USA, woohoo. Even if you run the table you get nothing - congrats.

Nah. It's better this way. As it is, AU fans can look back on 2004 fondly and say "we SHOULD have been national champions". If they would have played USC they would have been pimp slapped and they would never have thought of 2004 again.

If anyone actually believes that then they really know nothing about college football. Even a casual observer in San Fransisco SHOULD know Tennessee has been a dumpster fire for a long time now. Not just "not elite", but "dumpster fire".

2008 : 5-7, 3-5 (no bowl)
2009 : 7-6, 4-4 (Chik Fil A Bowl, blowout loss)
2010 : 6-7, 3-5 (Music City Bowl, loss)
2011 : 5-7, 1-7 (no bowl)
2012 : 5-7, 1-7 (no bowl)

Over the last 5 years Tennessee is 28-34 overall and more importantly 12-28 in the SEC.

12-28 in the league. And those 12 wins?

1 vs 8-5 UGA
1 vs 7-6 USCe
1 vs 4-8 Ole Miss
1 vs 4-8 Mississippi State
4 vs Vandy
4 vs Kentucky

Tennessee has only won 4 NON-VANDY/UK SEC GAMES IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS! Combined record of their 12 SEC win opponents? 62-89.

On top of that, they have been eviscerated against almost every good SEC team they have played the last 5 years, and have been beaten to a pulp every year but 2009 but Alabama.

Anyone talking about this is some sort of show that the SEC stinks and some big win for Oregon is purposely being delusion or trolling. Simple as that.

No they wouldn't have. There's zero empirical evidence from 2004 that supports that assertion.

I think they would have given USC a good game and might win it. We thought that USC was an all time great team then. We now know that they were overrated.

And, even if USC won, they had to vacate that win anyway, so Auburn could then claim the title, and we could have another big fight with Auburn fans claiming a title, Alabama fans telling them off, Auburn fans then yelling at Alabama fans about titles they have claimed, LSU fans chiming in, and Alabama fans saying, "hey we beat you guys 21-0...shut up", and so on. We lost out of some great rant threads because of this.

2010 destroyed any conference allegiance I had. I don't mind UF or USCe. Screw the rest.

Yea I really don't get it, though since my team wins it's own titles I am in a different position than most.

I don't actively root against other teams in the league other than Auburn or Tennessee, but I don't watch every SEC game and live and die with them, nor do I do that stupid chant after we win.

When Alabama wins a big OOC game Alabama won it, not the league. When we won a natty WE WON A NATTY, not the dayum league. We are we chanting SEC? I don't get it.

Ok, I would think that Alabama fans of all people would appreciate the need for the conference to look good against non-conference opposition.

You won not one but TWO national championships based in part on the reputation of the SEC. The pollsters didn't have to rank Alabama ahead of the other 1 loss teams, but they did, because they deemed Alabama's wins as better wins because they deemed the SEC a better conference.

I wanted Alabama to beat the every living shite out of Va Tech. Why? Because if Alabama destroys Tech, and then later on LSU is fortunate enough to beat Alabama, it makes the LSU win a better win.

Come next season with the playoffs, this will be even more important.

Bingo, people who don't want the conference to do well OOC are being very myopic about this. Let's pull for conference suckage so we can become the Sunbelt and watch the Big 10 and Pac 12 skip over our best teams based on conference strength. Sounds great.

I'm not saying it isn't important and again I very clearly noted I casually root for most SEC teams (outside of the ones I hate), but what I don't understand is the active cheering and chants about the league when your individual team wins a game. I'm all for the teams we play to have gaudy records with nice resumes against OOC foes, but when Alabama beats Michigan or Penn State I'm not going to start yelling and screaming about how awesome our league is..........I'm going to be yelling and screaming about how awesome we are.

That's all I'm saying.

You're correct that the SEC winning and being percieved as strong (which it obviously is) helps the SEC teams. I just don't get involved in the "SEC Pride" stuff. I said the same thing yesterday, but it's like gravity. I know gravity is true, but I don't have "Gravity pride", it is just a fact. The SEC is the best conference, I hope my team can help keep us on top, but I take no pride in the accomplishments of other SEC teams. Congrats to them, but I dont give a damn, just want my team to win.
