I've been impressed with aspects of both. Our secondary looks like a completely different animal as does Brandon Allen. And our DL and RBs are who we thought they were. Overall I'd say offense.

The D line is strong against the run and produces pressure with just a 4 man rush.

Defense looks like they actually know how to play their positions now.

Putting Tank at LB last year was so stupid.

We're also positive in turnover margin this year so far, and last year we were dead last in the FBS.

Both.

The defense actually looks like a defense, players look like they know what they are doing out there for a change.

It will take years for Arkansas to get the players needed for Bert's ground and pound offense.

Special teams is looking decent, I like the two punter approach, I fear replacing Hocker is going to be a task.

Yeah both. Offensive run game is very impressive. But the defensive line is stout.

Defense...I figured we would have a solid run game but wasn't sure how our D would respond to coaching.

We are very young too save a few players...

Philon
Lewis
Winston
Wise
Hodge
Peters
Hines

I also like DJ Dean a lot...He has a great build and very athletic

Defense.

I'll bet by the end of the year if not already we have more pass breakups this year than every year under petrino.

The line is actually stout and aggressive instead of slow and in the way. I can't believe we actually got sacks instead of being a step to slow constantly.

The offense is better than I thought they would be. The defense is lightyears ahead of where I thought they would be.

Defense

Ash and Taver are miracle workers in the secondary

Our secondary is light years ahead of where they have been. Our open field tackling, while still needing improvement, is a hell of a lot better than I expected. Our D-line can get to the passer without the aid of a blitz.

Our offensive line looks competent pass and run blocking. They are mostly dominating lesser competition, which they didn't do in the past.

Brandon Allen looks like a different quarterback.

Alex Collins is every bit of the stud we hoped he would be.

My boy Deatrich Wise is a monster waiting to explode on the end.

In the first 2 games, I would have said offense, but I'll go with defense for the last game. Of course it was only USM, but our defense looked great.

I'm surprised by how little attention it's received, but we're currently 6th in the nation in total defense. Here's the top 5 SEC defenses and Alabama (note that only 3 teams are in the top 30).

3. Florida 208.5 YPG
6. Arkansas 253
10. LSU 267.7
35. Ole Miss 332.7
43. Missouri 342
86. Alabama 420

The D line play was criticized in week 1 but we held a guy who's supposed to be a great dual threat to pretty much no rushing yards

I'm not looking up the exact stats but USM came into the game averaging 300 yards passing and 50 yards rushing, and they had played Nebraska...

Arkansas held them to 250 yards of total offense, yes they exceeded their rushing average, but they actually put forth an effort to run the ball in this game something they had not done in the first 2.

In years past we gave up all kinds of yards regardless of talent...I love the 3rd down defensive package with Smith, Flowers, Wise and a combo of players for the 4th spot. Thomas is playing to his hype and I believe Philon will be a stud for us...thanking Saban for the #process

Interestingly, this year was the first I've seen the all defensive players standing up to rush on third and long, Carolina did it some a few years ago, since I seen Arkansas do it in week one, I've seen Wisconsin and a couple other teams when flipping through the channels watching games.

Defense, very impressed with the DL and especially with Robert Thomas. It seems like the light has finally came on for him, or maybe just better coaching technique.
Flowers and Smith are the beasts that I'd thought they be although we haven't faced SEC RB's.
LB's a major concern.

Offense seems to be buying in to 2Beez's concepts. I'll reserve judgement on Allen, Williams and Collins until after the aTm game.

Defense!!!!

In the past our defense has looked like a chinese fire drill. Its nice having a defense that looks like it at least understand fundamentals and what to do!

And the young talent is great.

Ash/2B's used it a fair amount at Wisconsin on 3rd/long in particular, but it seems like so far we've used it more often than they did. Can't tell if they will keep using it that often or if our D is just forcing that many opportunities to throw it at them.

An effective defense. I feel so confused watching it, like its a completely different team. Guys are in position, making the tackle. I don't care who we played, its more than we have had in some time. The LB's seem to get better every week. Its like the polar opposite of 2012 in almost every way (minus starting QB dropping in week 3).

Agree that they put forth more effort on the rushing game, because I think we put forth more effort to stop the pass. Early in the game, our corners were playing tighter then I remember them play in a long time.

I watched some of that Nebraska game and they did look pretty good. But haven't Nebraska fans been complaining about their defense? They're currently ranked #105 in total defense.

edit: just looked it up and USM gained 30 more yards against Nebraska, with most of it coming through the air.

I'm guessing that we use it more because it lets us use all 4 of our DEs at the same time.
