Was talking about the hurricane bowl versus A&M and hurricane Gilbert when he was QB for bama. Said he was know a SEC ref.
How many ex-Bama players are refs?
Sorry but that seems ridiculous.

A friend of mine works with a UF grad that's a SEC ref. He's not allowed to ref UF games. I think that's about all the restrictions.

There are several Bama alums who are refs or other on field officials. I believe that there are alums from several other schools as well.
SEC rules preclude an alumnus from officiating a game in which his alma mater is playing. Now that doesn't keep him from working a game in which a team that is a rival of his alma mater is playing, but there's not much you can do about it.
These are not full time officials, they have regular jobs, and to work SEC games need to be based in the southeast. They also have to be pretty well off or high up in a company to take the time off they do, so of course you are going to have highly educated individuals in the position. Highly educated+lives in the SE=good chance of being an SEC grad.

The SWC did.
And no refs from or lived in Arkansas were allowed to ref an Arkansas game, we had all Texas crews.
