I have to think that with all the money coming into the revenue producing college sports (football and basketball), all the conference realignment, the seeming laissez faire attitude regarding college athletes receiving money under the table, etc. that the NCAA can't last too much longer with the major universities.

How long do you think the NCAA will last?

Longer than it should, but still, not MUCH longer. I think you will see a break away from it in the next 15 years or so.

It's inevitable and needed.

Nothing that I know of. But, LSU's interests as a football power is the same interests of other football powers. I'm not talking about rivalries on the playing field but about business. And, the NCAA can be bad for business. I'll just be glad when NCAA is no more.

What do you suggest replacing it? Or should there just be no rules and oversight?

Paying a stipend doesn't solve the problem either.

People don't realize how much the NCAA has their hands tied IMO.

That's why I asked. I'm sure we have dirt somewhere but LSU has a good compliance department. I was just curious why he slapped us in there with the other proven cheaters. I haven't seen anyone prove anything on any LSU allegations. The only thing that comes to mind is the Lyles incident and that was more on Oregon. LSU didn't land any of those recruits and had a way to back up their claims of using the scouting. I guess the self-reported violation with Hicks? That's just an example of the compliance department being so good for us. We kicked that coach out on his unemployed arse.

I think a "French Revolution" style of action is warranted.

The football powers will break out a lot sooner. Probably less than 5 years.

Jackie Sherrill theorized decades ago that the large football schools would pull away from the NCAA and form their own leagues. Sherrill believes that this is taking shape with conference alignment.

I think there will be rules but players will be paid.

How is the NCAA bad for business? Seriously, I'm not informed on this subject at all and would like more info. Is it simply because the top football programs end up carrying the load for the lower tier programs? Title 9?

Probably because they target the big programs more. The SEC isn't where it's at with all that money by being clean.

Oh, Dale. Just like clockwork.

For the record--and I know you know this--the recent unfounded NCAA allegations were not directed at Texas A&M University. You're spinning the situation.

All that's fine and dandy but it's only a matter of time before more allegations come out about some improprieties because all of us big-time football schools are playing the same game under the table. I'm a LSU fan and alum but one thing I'm not is foolish. I know my school is doing whatever it takes to get the best football players.

I posted this just the other day and was railed by all the smart asses here.

The S.E.C is leading the charge to break away from the NCAA and has been doing so since Cam. Our league has gotten way too powerful to let the NCAA call any of the shots any longer. In the eyes of the league office the NCAA no longer exists as of this very moment to answer your question. It's all right in front of us.
