Has anyone here floated the Guadalupe before? Is there a certain outfitter to use or part of the river that's better than others?

Also, how is just floating on an inner-tube? Seems like it could get boring compared to canoeing of rafting.

Are you trying to do a leisurely party type float or are you trying to outdoorsy type floating? This is key to a couple questions you asked

Idk honestly...I guess the leisure type float. We canoe the Buffalo in AR a few times a year. Thought we might try something different. We are staying in New Braunfels and plan on spending the rest of the day/evening in Gruene. So I figured we'd end up at the point in the river just below Gruene.

But I wasn't sure which outfitter was better and don't know anything about the river.

I would suggest doing the Comal if you want to hang out and drink some beers. It's right in New Braunfels and only takes a couple hours, it can be pretty crowded though. There's lots of outfitters, I've used Texas Tubes before.

I've never done the canoeing thing in Texas rivers honestly, that's why I asked. Gruene is badass if you've never been. Eat at the Grist Mill and have a couple Shiners at Gruene Hall.

Thanks...but there is a new can law on the Comal from what I understand. No cans on the water inside city limits. I think the bridge just below Gruene is the cut off point.

Yes I've been to Gruene a few times for work and love it. I like Grist Mill and Gruene River Inn. I think Charlie Robison will be ta Gruene Hall the night my wife and I will be there. Should be a good time.

From looking at it it doesn't apply to the area near Canyon Lake either. I've never floated by Canyon Lake or by Gruene but I would guess since those communists banned cans in the NB city limits that both those areas are pretty fun now, since you know, people like to drink beer while floating the river

I always go to the Lion's Club tubing in San Marcos... No can ban, relatively short float, you can do it as many times as you want, and there are some nice rapids at the end that are fun to go down repeatedly.

I'm a canoe endurance racer. I compete in sanctioned ultra marathon river races. Essentially, I'm a canoeing expert and enthusiast.

I agree that tubing might seem boring, but it's not. In fact, with a group of people who are looking to party on the river (and I assume that's the goal on the Guadalupe), tubing is the only way to do it. You'll look like a douchebag in a canoe on the Guadalupe because it is a tubing river.

However, purchase a tube instead of renting one. You'll spend less and you'll own the tube for future float trips. Also, purchase a small children's tube (one with a bottom) for your cooler and then tie it to your tube. You must not forget a separate tube for your cooler.

Everyone will tie up and it'll be a huge floating party.

You'll have blast! And you'll want to do it again.

PS...Do NOT canoe on the Guadalupe. It's not a canoeing river. Just trust me.

Watch out for rattle snakes.

There is no water to speak of in the Guadalupe. Prepare to walk and paddle.

Golden,

Hit me up. If there isn't water in the Guadalupe right now, I have another (closer) option that will be better.

I am pretty sure we used River Bank Outfitters when I was stationed in San Antonio. Worst damn sunburn of my life on the first trip I took. Tubing was definitely the way to go. They were friendly and there were no alcohol restrictions outside of no glass containers. That has been about 5-6 years ago. So I can't speak to the river levels or any new rules.

We've just had some pretty good rain here so hopefully the river level is flowing. We go Concan every year and there is pretty much zero flow, so instead, we just sit and drink beer

Enjoy your trip and be sure to go eat at the Grismill. You'll love it.

Yeah live in NWA....but I'm going to be in SA for work. Wife is coming down for the weekend...so that's the reason we were going to Guadalupe.

But what were you going to suggest?

I didnt realize you were down there for work.

I was going to suggest that you and friends go to the Current River in Van Buren, MO. It's a tube river ad spring fed, which means it is up all year long no matter if there hasn't been rain.

It is an awesome party river. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, there will be an estimated 500 - 1,000 people on a 7 mile stretch of river. Boobs, beer, and babes.

Plus, it's incredibly scenic, second only to the Buffalo...except the Current always has a really good water flow.
