... A&M were still a Big 12 member? Would the national media have proclaimed the SEC's era of dominance is over?

They wouldn't 've played if A&M was still in the Big 12.

Probably. The media wants the SEC to go down. It's bad for business when it's always the usual suspects winning games. Hell, everyone knew that there were 6 SEC teams that would have rolled Notre Dame last year, but the talking heads on ESPN had to talk the game up as if it were actually going to be competitive.

A&M >>>>>>> Utah, Louisville, Clemson and Louisiana-Monroe. Right?

It would have been HUGE for the Big 12, and A&M might have been undefeated at that point assuming they didn't have Florida or LSU on the schedule.

Does anyone think the SEC is going away if/when they fail to win the national crown some year?

What would the media say if the SEC won only half of the national titles a decade?

I noticed you switched aesthetic allegiance from Texas A&M to Bama/Ohio St. , but you're really an A&M fan. Weird.

I think Utah, Louisville, and Clemson had the benefit of playing top-10 SEC teams deflated having to play a "lesser" team in a bowl game. For elite SEC programs, it's national title or bust.

ULM beat one of the worst teams in the SEC in Arkansas last year, and a mediocre one in Bama 2007.

So for a Big 12 A&M to go into the #1 team in the nation's house, an SEC program with 2 of the last 3 national titles at that point, and win, would have been a much bigger deal in the media than those other games you alluded to.

Follow up question to the OP:

This board is all in on the FACT that Bama will beat A&M. Even Bama haters, well, lets call it 99% of them, think this.

If this does not happen, what will the spin be? Will the focus immediately turn to how JFF and Sumlin will both be in the NFL next year, another Rant "fact"...or will several posters actually man up?

Bama has lost a few games in teh SEC in recent years and still managed to win a couple NCs in those years. Unless A&M runs the rest of their schedule or wins the SEC it means they beat Bama but didn't accomplish their major goal of improving upon last year's performance.

There's nothing bad about that. A&M had a very nice year last year... they just didn't win the SEC or win a NC

I would say that I've been very wrong because my honest opinion is that you caught a battered and emotionally drained Bama squad that couldn't match the Aggie intensity in the 4th quarter. Bama would have never scheduled a premiere out of conference game the week after LSU. I doubt if the the win over GA in Atl. would have propelled Bama into the game over two undefeateds, aTm and ND. But if there were a rematch it would have been a lot worse than 1/09/12. You don't have the depth to handle Bama at their best. You shouldn't have the depth to play with LSU or FL but who knows if either will have functional offenses? And who ever knows what GA & Richt will do?

Or I'm wrong. I've been wrong before & admitted it before.

If its any consolation, if the Aggies had faced the Irish for the title last year I think you would have handled them. Teo wasn't nearly fast enough to corral your little Bugs Bunny QB. A possible, arguably probable, MNC lost to the SEC guantlet.

Good point. Since we are playing "play like"..had Texas A&M stayed in the Big 12, but played Alabama and not LSU or Florida, good chance they would have been undefeated, and THEY would have played Notre Dame for the National Championship.

Exactly. The A&M win at Bama was pretty shocking as it was, can you imagine if it was Big 12 A&M?

Somehow by A&M joining the SEC, the outcome of that game became less of a surprise.

Never would've happened, no way bama schedules aTm outside of being an SECW member. I put "W" there to make the realization that no way would the SEC have put aTm, a good team from the East, on their schedule.
