It's because of our weak home schedule this year. All of our good games are on the road.

As a side note: This is why expanding stadiums in this day and age is folly. Renovate to increase ammenities and facilities, but increasing capacity is just asking for 70% full stadiums in 9 win seasons.

Many teams have expanded stadiums and had no problem selling out.

With the high number of D-1 teams in Texas I can see your point. But places like Nebraska and Bama are going to sell out no matter how big the stadium gets.

LSU at 1500 seems low. I guess they have taken all the people who have reserved seats in the new south end zone expansion off the list, even though they won't have tickets until 2014.

Bigger stadiums often lead to lower ticket prices (unless you have 20k+ waiting lists for season tickets) on the secondary market due to an increase in supply, so more people are willing and able to go.

Nebraska is specifically mentioned in the article as no longer having a waiting list.

People would have said the same thing (and I'm sure did) about Tennessee in the 90s, and look at them now.

The point is with modern TV access, the motivation for paying $10,000 for season tickets when you could get a much better view of the games from your HD LCD 60" for less than $2000 and drink beer at the same time in an A/C'd room is greatly reduced. Expanding a stadium at this point is asking for much lower ticket prices in the future.

You will see the downward trend continue with the outrageous prices of tickets and fees today, along with the SEC Network and every game being on TV. People are going to keep their money and stay home. Book it!!

Uh, the weak home schedule has something to do with it.

But, come on. Our program was shite upon for a solid year by the Petrino/Smith clan.

I'm not surprised.

I can't speak for any other school, but I know at Alabama the waiting list has remained the same size or grown after every season even with the expansions to the stadium.

no doubt. It takes the wind out of any fanbase's sails. I know it took several years to fully recover from the Fran years and the first year of Sherman - which was because of Fran but it killed any excitement of the new hire.

It seems from reading the Rant that y'all are pretty fired up about Bielema but sometimes that can be deceiving. How's the atmosphere really? Is there excitement, or more along the lines of show me something first?

:webielema:

Honestly, I don't understand the lack of excitement in Fayetteville.

Bielema is quite accomplished at getting to BCS bowls.

In all seriousness, that's the problem with ticket sales for all schools.

It's why Auburn has to include the Bama game as a package deal with 3 craptastic games.

Pretty common ploy here on the Left Coast where it's really hard to fill the stadium when there isn't a marquee opponent or rivalry game.

I think I'd be happier if the Sun Belt teams and those like them were demoted to FCS and we kept FBS as just the top 5 or 6 conferences. Then we could pay the players and have every game mean something. Rent a wins are plain boring.

There were only a few hundred seats and they sold out very quickly. Basically folks paid $260 for the Bama game. Next year we may have a really hard time as we may have to go on the road to UGA and BAMA which leaves us without a home rivalry game.
