Is the JFF obsession racially motived?

If JFF were black, would we be as critical of him? If Jeremy Hill were white, would we be more critical of him for his crimes?

Depends.
If his crimes were racist, then yes. See Zimmerman. Not two months later a black guy kills a baby in a stroller. Nothing about it on the news. Weird huh.
But for normal things, white is ignored and accepted while black is generally outcast. Only when you throw race as a motivating factor for the actions is white thrown into the spot light. We get off easy unless it's a hate crime.

Not all of the obsession is based in criticism. Some people are just fascinated by watching the demise of others.
