Today is August 2nd, which means there are only 29 more days until it's Football Time in Tennessee. (and most other schools in the SEC)
However, this day has a little more meaning than the other days in the countdown.
29 was the number that former Vols Safety Inquoris "Inky" Johnson wore during his time on The Hill.
For those of you who may not know, in the 2006 game vs. Air Force, Inky was severely injured while attempting to tackle an Air Force WR.
In what could've been a much more worse outcome, Inky suffered severe nerve damage to his right arm and shoulder and lost all function of that limb.
Despite his injury, Inky continued to persevere and ended up having a successful life after college. He now works as a motivational speaker for both the public and the Tennessee football team, and released his book, "Inky: An Amazing Story of Faith and Perseverance" a couple of years ago.
Inky is also who inspired Eric Berry to wear #29 for the Chiefs. (as a tribute)

Played against Inky Johnson in high school. He was really the only legit player for Crim, but you could tell he was ridiculously athletic and quick.
If I'm not mistaken, we had a guy sign with UT the year before and my high school HC was the one who suggested UT take a look at Inky. Always pulled for him after that, hate it he was so severely injured.

Truly a miracle no vertebrae was injured.

He had one of his speeches to the team this past spring embedded into someone's YouTube video. Was great - have me chills with the music + Inky's passion.
Didnt realize how close he was to dying from the injury.
