Interesting question. The Big 12 has really fallen off and I think A&M is going to become the top dog in Texas because of that. But if they start pulling the best coaches like the SEC has done, things could change quickly.

He already turned down Notre Dame. Seriously, if a school is big and has an opening, that fan base automatically thinks it can get Saban.

I'm a Bama fan, but I realize that if LSU had been open when he wanted to return, he would've tried to go there but they were happy with Miles. Alabama was looking, and here he is.

Texas had a shot back in 2006-2007, but not now. He has more money than he'll ever spend, loads of talent, and he's proven he can win titles just about anywhere. Considering this is a man that loves discipline and challenges, why switch to easy mode? Texas is nothing in CFB these days. They haven't been since Alabama beat them for the 2009 title.

I'm thinking there's a better chance of Bobby Petrino being hired at Texas.

He wouldn't have to worry that much about recruiting and with a good defensive coordinator, he would be dangerous.

Negative, but that post is confirmation that, deep down, you've never gotten over the pain you felt on that christmas morning.

One thing that gets lost in this disucssion is Saban's unquestioned control over the program. Saban runs Bama's program with an iron fist and Bama's big money boosters and the army of homers have fallen right in line. Saban has control unlike any other coach in the country i/m/o and he won't get that at Texas working for Deloss Dodds and their big money bosters like Red McCombs. I don't see those guys taking a backseat to anyone even Saban.

Furthermore, there was a huge backlash from UT's liberal and progressive academic ranks. There was a huge uproar when they paid Mack $5MM and don't think they are going to support doubling that to hire what they view as a win at all costs "mercenary". In their deluded view that sort of thing is for the Alabama's of the world.

Saban is on the cusp of something truly hitsoric and if sticks with Bama and the recruiting juggernaut we will be talking about him on the same level as Bryant, and possible Wooden at UCLA, or maybe Phil Jackson before its all said and done. To leave that at age 61 or 62 to straighten out UT's mess and deal with that vipers nest of politics in Austin seems improbable. Bama can match UT in any salary war and you are badly misinformed if you think otherwise

I'm pretty sure Saban is locked into Alabama for the long term but if he was to go somewhere, the University of Texas would be at the top of a short list.

That's the deal. I believe Saban would then be the only coach to win MNC at 3 different universities. Certainly in no way am I saying that he would leave BAma for TExas but might be a draw for him and his pride to be the only coach in NCAA history to ever have the opportunity to do this. Then again as 14&Counting so aptly put it, maybe not.

The only possible reason I can think of is if he decided to try to win an NC at 3 different schools. If so, UT would be his best bet in a short amount of time.

Are you stupid? That is not a rhetorical question.

Why don't you compare Massachusett's endowment with Texas's endowment? Because Harvard shits on UT.

Or what about compare California with Texas, GDP-wise? California would blow Texas out of the water, but UT has a much larger endowment than the UC system, even though the UC system is much more prestigious.

It doesn't matter how much money Texas has. They aren't going to offer more than Alabama is willing to match.

Exactly. I have never understood the 'never get in to a bidding war with them' - they aren't going to spend every last dime on Saban. Only up to a certain amount that is, while not necessarily at current market pay, only above it by a certain amount.

Which means Bama can match. They may go $10mm max. And that would be an insane amount in today's world. Bama can match that easily. Saban pays himself multiple times over with what he has done at Bama. It's not like Texas is going to throw $100mm at the guy.

Bryant's legacy is much more than the wins and championships. He had a lasting impact on the state, city, university, and certainly the football program. He led program for 25 years. That's something a coach just can't replicate in a cynical society.

Yes he is...maybe even surpassing Bryant with what he has done the last four years in this day and age. But, truth be told, most Bama fans feel he will never be Bear Bryant.

They are both great coaches, best in the business...so by no means am I trolling on either, I respect them both greatly for what they have accomplished...but what I said is the truth.
