Indicate whether or not your band receives scholarships. I'm curious as to the perceived best bands and the correlation between scholarships being awarded.

UF - no scholarships that I'm aware of

AU - only if you're a music major, and even then only if you're good.

Million Dollar Band is open to all students, including music majors.

Scholarship Information

The Million Dollar Band offers participation scholarships to deserving wind players, keyboard players, bassists, guitarists and percussionists based on musical ability and the needs of the band. The amount of the awards usually ranges from $500.00 to $1000.00.

To be considered for a Million Dollar Band scholarship, students must play an audition separate from the membership auditions held at Fall Camp. Million Dollar Band scholarships are not available for Shelton State students.

Alabama has a School of Music.

the Tiger Band is comprised of students from all over the LSU campus. Even though Tiger Band members display a wealth of musical talent, we desire players who possess a strong sense of dedication and pride in their work. Approximately 80% of Tiger Band members are majoring outside of music.

I believe @ LSU it's music scholarship, not a band one but of course music scholarships are many. In sure a tiger band member can correct me

Every member receives a $400 stipend and out of state students in the band get to pay in-state tuition (insane).

This is not entirely true. I got a scholarship my freshman year, and I only had to audition once.

Alabama - no, at least not when I was there. Shelton State also has students that participate in Alabama's band. That's why it is so large.

You must be a member of the Corps of Cadets to be in the A&M band. No music majors but the Corps members do receive scholarships.

I don't think that's right. If you get a school of music scholarship you can get instate tuition. However just being in the marching band doesn't guarantee you in state tuition.

Marching band is just a 1 credit hour class that you audition for and get a stipend for.

It is though. not trying to come off as a dick, I've been in the band the past 3 years. in the other thread you said you were in it in '09? They must have changed it that offseason.

btw, its absolute crap that you only get 1 hour credit despite working like 16 hours a week. But I guess since you go to the games and away/bowl games for free its okay.

I'm in UAB's band and I get $3000 a year.

Jacksonville State used to give out full rides for band scholarships. No joke, their school of music is absolutely loaded.

Tiger Band members are granted a $1000 stipend for the fall semester. Bengal Brass members are paid $20 per event they play. However, this year the $1000 stipend is being revoked in favor of a band trip to Ireland for St Patty's.

We went on the same trip last year. Had a great time.
