Have you caught your breath yet? You must have sprinted here to get the Fields decommit up on this board ... huh.

We can handle our own recruiting thread ... thanks anyway. Now gtfo.

Still would face him every year if he went to UGA.

Hopefully he'll go to Texas

Owens and Washington have both sent in their early letters this morning - they are Gamecocks.

Spurrier, Jr. doing work with his WR class.

Those letters dont tie them to us. They obligate us to them, not the other way around. Wide receiver is not a huge need for us or anybody. I am still aghast at nobody visiting or speaking with palmer(ol) for the last month. What in the actual frick are we doing????

Jc shurbut just eviscerated spurrier and the direction ofthe program on 107.5.

So (LB) Lewis signing with us just a little while ago means nothing ... right?

Lewis is a JUCO and the other two aren't. The situations are completely different

eta- today was the first day that JUCO's can sign binding agreements with the schools they're going to. That date for high school students isn't until February

Unless those high school players are early enrollers, then they are enrolled into USC first of January, and then February is meaningless for them. We have mid-year signings from:

LB Ernest Hawkins (JUCO)

LB Jalen Henry (HS)

DT Ulric Jones (JUCO)

DE Marquavius Lewis (JUCO)

WR Christian Owens (HS)

DB Darin Smalls (HS) - essentially a grey-shirt

WR Jerad Washington (HS)

We're still expected to get LOIs this month for DE Dexter Wideman (Prep School) and LB Sherrod Pittman (HS)...

Here is the article about their signings on the official USC site:

With all of these noise around Mark Fields decommitment, it’s players like these who will make a difference. A great pass rusher can make an inept defensive back look like an all pro. Signing guys like Lewis help hide deficiencies (DB’s), look at UGA this past year. We had walk ons and 3* starting at DB and it worked out better than we thought because of guys like Floyd, Jenkins, Carter...silver lining gentleman

Yea but the high school students still haven't signed anything binding. They sent in financial paper work that lets the coaches have unlimited contact with them

Losing Fields sucks, he was in the Top5 must gets for this class. We did get the #1 Overall must-get in Lewis, so that's good. We have to keep Sawyer and Wideman too. Palmer was also in the Top5 must-gets, IMO.

I like the addition of Ulric, he's big, strong and tone/not fat.

Hawkins is faster than Durant, but Durant was a ball hawk and had really good play/field awareness.

Good news is Wilds and Carson are coming back. We'll have scholarship RB's next season and the 2 youngest will get a year to develop before they are needed. Although, AJ Turner could end up doing returns, he reminds me of Pharoh out of HS in that he is the best athlete on the field in the game films and very elusive.

Well good defenses are built from the inside out. Having good Dbs is pointless if they have to cover for 5-7 secs

I'm calling it now... in 2-3 years Spurrier steps down and either Patterson (Milton) or Strong (Fields) steps into his shoes. Feel free to bump this legendary post at that time...

Yep we already had an excellent DB class added to the program with the 2014 class. Adding Fields to those would make the depth at the position sick, but without him it's still above solid.

We'll have Wesley Green playing next season after being red-shirted....will also have McWilliams, Lammons, Harris returning as well with plenty of playing experience. Also return Jamari Smith from his season-ending injury, and still have Ali Groves who I'm hoping will contribute at least some depth. That's 6 scholarship CBs right there, and we have DBs DJ Smith and Demetrius Smalls who can also play either CB or FS for us.

At the safety positions, we return Gurley, Elder, Moody, Jasper Sasser, and add Darin Smalls. Plus the additions of Octavius Johnson, Damon Arnette, and Antoine Wilder, and we're pretty deep in bodies as well as talent. If Ward and Brown can't put together a decent secondary from that depth, then they are worse coaches than anyone's imagined....

Solid, reasonable, outlook. If only more could see the light and understand the reality of our situation. It's not nearly as weak as some are claiming.
