We flipped WR Christian Jones from UGA today. Big receiver, 6'5"

Same guy from two weeks ago? Owens or Jones?

I meant Owens. We flipped him a couple weeks ago, but he made it official this weekend. UGA didn't have an EE spot for him, we did, and he'll be here in January.

He must be pretty good. Getting a 4 star EE rcvr in time for Spring ball has got to be considered a potential blessing at this stage in the game.

He looks like a hybrid TE/WR like Busta did out of HS. Hopefully he has some speed. We needed some bigger WR's going forward. Although it is hard to argue about the WR's this year as Dylan is in position to break the school record in passing.

The reports I've read about Owens' 40 times would not exactly wow you, if accurate...

Dexter Wideman has done well this semester at Prep, he is expected to qualify and enroll in January. He won't sign an LOI, and he will just enroll. This is great news. As long as he doesn't go full stupid these last 3 weeks and skip class, he's going to be here in a month.

Langley is reportedly interested in transferring to SC. he would have to sit out a year, but that could count as a RS year, and he would have 2 left to play. With all the young 4* DB's we have or that are coming in, I don't know if SC is going to bite on that.

Yep, he started for uga last year, and started 3 games this year, but was replaced. Our CB's were so bad this year, he may have started, who knows.

Dante Sawyer JUCO highlights. He uses his hands to disengage blockers, he has a swim move, I even saw him work a couple spin moves, overall I saw hustle...and I like it. A few times though the OL just let him blow right by them unblocked.

https://www.hudl.com/athlete/4346556/highlights

He gained, a lot of weight, but he's still quick. One of these he ran down the QB on the sideline.

You want to put his season in comparison? DJ Jones, FSU Commit, #4 Overall JUCO in 247 Composite, #1 DT and was a JUCO Soph was the other DT on the EMCC team with Sawyer.

This season:
Jones (Soph) - 28 Tackles, 4 Sacks, 8.5 TFL's, 31 yards lost, 2 FF's.
Sawyer (Fr) - 21 Tackles, 6.5 Sacks, 10.5 TFL's, 69 yards lost, 2 FF's.

Now Sawyer is a guy who would work as a DE in a 3-4, he would also be an AWESOME DT in our 4-2-5, or a 4-3.

GREAT article about Dexter Wideman! Sawyer gained some weight, Dexter dropped it. Funny how a year ago we though Dexter would grow into a DT and Sawyer a DE, but that is now switched.

Besides that, I really liked some of the quotes in this article.

https://www.gogamecocks.com/2014/12/02/651760_military-man-camden-academy-molds.html?sp=/99/103/&rh=1

quote:

Every day, the former Saluda High standout silently wonders why he wasn’t with the South Carolina football team he originally signed with in February, helping solve the season-long defensive struggles
“Every night before I go to sleep and every morning when I wake up, I think about that,” he said. “I know I could have been there helping them.”.

quote:

“I told him when he came to school here, ‘Son, you’ve already proven yourself on the football field,’ ” said Colonel Eric Boland, the school’s headmaster. “ ‘The challenge you’re going to have now, coming to our school, is prove yourself in the classroom and in the dormitories.’ ”

quote:

“There’s a reason South Carolina recruited him,” Rice said. “It’s obvious. It’s there, you see it every day. The speed, the quickness, the strength. There’s a reason South Carolina wanted him, definitely.”

quote:

“It’s not like we’ve got this real diamond in the rough who we had to polish a whole lot,” Boland said. “He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do without any hesitation.”

quote:

“We try to be successful with all of them, but it takes a special guy to come in and do every single thing they have to do in this military setting and then play football, too,” Boland said. “And we don’t take prima donnas, so we’re not for everyone.”

quote:

It will not be easy for Wideman to bid adieu to Boland, Rice and his fellow cadets. But he finds himself itching to contribute to that beleaguered South Carolina defense. He speaks with defensive line coach Deke Adams frequently and reiterated his commitment to the program despite any staff changes that might loom.

“When I was first born,” he said, “I knew I was a Gamecock.”

And now, he’s much more than just a Gamecock. Now he’s a man.

I was hoping he'd still be able to play DE.

Lewis should come in and basically have the weak side spot on lock. Maybe Sawyer is still light enough to play the strong side? Is Wideman still light enough to play DE

eta- nevermind just saw your most recent post.

He could, but he needs to drop about 20 lbs in 9 months.

He'll come in as a SDE. Sawyer could compete for the SDE spot too, but if he comes in at his present weight, they'll probably will have already talked to him about DT.

Yes, He went there around 260 lbs, I think he looks about 235-240 lbs right now. If he eats right (not a lot of junk, but just right) he'll be fine to put back on 15 lbs in 9 months. He has a really good frame too, he can make it work.

watching Zack Bailey Sr Highlights....it's fun, but not fair, it just showed him destroying 200-230 lb guys. I did like how he finished plays and would follow the ball downfield. That's an attitude thing, and you can't teach that.

AJ Turner missed most of his Sr season with a wrist injury...well it healed fine. What did the defenders say to AJ when he got back? "bye"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbJBNvyJ8YM

this kid has wheels.

AJ's team's latest playoff game, AJ makes huge plays on offense, defense and Spec Teams. He looks like Pharoh did in HS. He's just better than everyone else on the field and has a high football IQ.

So maybe Lewis can be strong side and Wideman weak?

I just don't see BAW starting at DE if he doesn't add a significant amount of weight

Yes, at this point in time, that's what I'm thinking

BAW will move back to LB, once we get the DE's in.

WDE's
English
Harris
?Cooper if he isn't moved back to LB
Washington
Key
Blackshear
Wideman
Whitlow (if he sticks)

SDE's
Dixon
Johnson
McClain
Lewis
Sawyer (or DT)

Damn, when you write it out, it's nice to see, it's a big upgrade. Hopefully we have the coaching in place to match that talent.
