This is Maddy my oldest daughter. She made the decision last year that she wanted to donate her hair after meeting a cancer survivor at Walmart. The little girl was 8 yrs old and had no hair due to the treatment. She was wanting her mom to buy a headband and Maddy wanted the same headband. The little girl said "one day I hope I can have hair like yours, its so pretty." Maddy told her you will one day and helped her pick out a headband. Maddy searched on the Internet and found Locks of Love for children who have lost their hair due to illness and begged for us to let her do this. She is so proud and hopeful her friend from Walmart will receive her hair. I'm still getting used to her with short hair but couldn't be happier or more proud about her willingness to sacrifice for others.

Your post made my day. Congrats to your daughter for her selfless act, and to you for raising her to think of others!

My brother was diagnosed with Leukemia at 8 months old and battled with it for 5 years before finally beating it. People like your little girl make all the difference in the world to many patients

What a wonderful little girl! And obviously wonderful parents who are raising her to be kind and compassionate.

And proud you should be.

I continue to tell my 14 yr. old daughter that her best moments are the ones when she is putting others ahead of herself.

Your daughter has done just that.
