Is the HUNH/spread a fad or is it the future? or just what it is now?

Trying to have an actual football discussion here. As an older A&M fan and an LSU fan I respect Defense first.

The LSU guys remember when A&M had the wrecking Crew. Kevin Smith, Ray Mickens, Aaron Glenn, Coryatt, Wallace, Sam Adams etc.. and obviously LSU has had incredible success on D with a list too long to list of NFL guys. Same with Bama.

My point for the preface is to show I am not suddenly an expert on HUNH. A&M in my day was punt crush on D punt crush on D repeat until Darren Lewis or Gregg Hill took it House. To be honest that is football I love. It is football I know.

I also want to pay homage to Saban, Bama and other SEC schools so this thread is not destroyed.

This is a very intersting topic.

Just as the forward pass, the option, the box backfield with no QB that came before it - the HUNH is relatively new.

Do you see this as something staffs, especially staffs that can get whoever they want, will move in this direction or stay with Pound and Ground then over the top.

It seems there is a little variation in recruiting which surprises me to be honest because I do not think HUNH should change anything - yet.

The NFL as you all know appears to be in the early stages of morphing the QB role. If you don't have a Manning or Brees or Brady - don't try and create a bad one. Rather add a guy who can run for 3rd and 6 and sometimes bust it.

Thoughts on this?

Auburn has the greatest running back history in college football other than USC or Miami. That will continue.

Oh, and before 2009....Auburn had one of the best defensive reputations in college football. Gus understands that, and he plans on being dominant on both sides of the ball.

It's a fad.

Speed on defense is the achilles heel of HUNH.
