Honest question for Auburn fans, overall are you glad Chizik came there?

Just curious, I have to admit that winning a NC seems worth no matter how it ended and in the end while many try and diminish it because of Cam's apparent recruiting issues, there were no NCAA violations and you won a NC, embarrsed Ala at home with a comeback, waxed UGA and won a NC. So was it worth it to your fans to have the turmoil? For me I think if I was an Auburn fan I would say yes, just curious how your fan base feels, thanks

He won them their first title in half a century. Of course they're glad he came.

What recruiting issues?

You really have to ask?

Since nothing happened and we won a title...you tell me.

The overall exerience, yes I'm glad he came. That doesn't mean we still can't be pissed he was a terrible coach who left us in terrible shape.

Also, Malzahn likely wouldn't be here without Chizik's tenure... not sure if that's a good thing or not yet.

Overall, I guess I am. Tubs left us with a very significant lack of scholarship players with all the non-qualifiers he signed. We only had about 70 players on scholarship Chizik's first year, practically no linebackers (like 2 on scholly) and a defensive unit that was nowhere close to SEC standards.

Chiz didn't have much to work with in 2009. We had a losing record in 2008, and even less talent in 2009. Chiz did a great job in 2009, then a spectacular job in 2010. 2011 was a year that was pretty much as expected after we lost 19 seniors from the 2010 team.

2012 was a dumpster fire, but Chizik did a good job of rebuilding the roster, restocking the talent and leaving us in better shape than he found us IMO.

Seems like he hurt/set your program back more than he helped. National Title was great but you didn't reap the benefits of a title like most teams do with continued success and the program just making large strides forward.

Yes.

It was worth it.

It was also worth it to fire him.

If Gus wins 8 or 9 games this year...how far back was our program set?

The only bad thing that came out of Chizik coming was last year. He recruited plenty of talent for Gus and EJ to work with, we won a NC, had 2 decent years around it, and created a bunch of butt hurt from rival fans. All with a sorry HC.

yea I don't really know what he meant by that statement. what immediate benefits are we suppose to be reaping 3 years after a national title? I mean our recruiting is still pretty good, better than before probably. does winning a national championship automatically "reap" you a good following season?

the overall talent level and roster is in better shape today than the one Tuberville inherited in 99 and Chizik inherited in 09. I think in 12 months people will be talking about Auburn as a possible SECW contender the for 2014 season... granted, time will tell and much of that is dependent on Malzahn and Staff's abilities.

I dare say I'd take the one magical NC season over years of sustained success without getting over the hump.

Raises an interesting question if it is better to have long term success with no titles or a quick peak and then fall to mediocrity.

of course... anyone would.

How many fanbases will never get to experience what Auburn fans experienced in Jan 2011?... 80%?... how many SEC fanbases will never experience it in their lifetimes?

I agree. The number of experienced upperclassmen we will have in 2014 is going to be absurd. Guys that have been multi-year starters and we will pretty much have the same players in 2014 we have this year (along with some potential JUCO studs). So, if Gus and company show they can field a competitive team this year, 2014 will be practically the same team and players with another year of starting experience.

Have this conversation a good bit with my Auburn friends. I go back and forth. I don't know how I'd deal with a 3 win season.

I do challenge any school that has not won a BCS title to trade thier last four years with Auburns.

That is 4 Top 10 recruiting classes, 3-0 in bowls(Outback and Peach), a Heisman winner, a BCS title,...and an 0-8 SEC regular season.

A&M, UGA, UT, USC, Arky, UK, Vandy, OM, MSU, Mizzou...would you trade?
