The drive in to Oxford helps the town out immensely. You drive through the crappiest part of Mississippi and then all of the sudden your in Oxford. Detroit would look good after that drive.
The drive to Fayetteville is as majestic as the town of Fayetteville itself.
Do yourself a favor and go to Arkansas.

Arkansas is thrilled that Mississippi and Oklahoma are in the state rankings because that insures we'll never be last at anything.
But to address the OP, Oxford is a great college town, but has completely outgrown it's "quaint"ness. The town is pitifully ill-prepared for the deluge of fans that arrive on a gameday weekend. The roads, restaurants, bars, etc are completely overwhelmed which makes a visit there a little less enjoyable, but still fun once you know what to expect.
The Grove is a spectacle and wins out vs. Arkansas and most others in the SEC, but it won't change your life. And, you'll probably be like most other visiting fans that don't know anyone in Oxford, just wondering thru the Grove for a few hours carrying a cooler or some luke warm beer looking for someone to invite you into their tent - which probably won't happen. Yeah, there are hot chicks at Ole Miss but please tell me where there aren't any in the SEC? I have only been to a couple disappointing SEC boobie scenes.
Fayetteville has multiples more bars, restaurants, nice hotels and options and yet still feels like a quiet college town. Most of the opposition to Fayetteville in this thread comes not from what kind of place Fayetteville is, but more so that we're perceived not to be a part of the "deep south" and that whole scene. And we aren't.
Fayetteville in the Fall is one of the most beautiful places to be for a football game and given the fact that we'll be moving the series back to Jerry World then this makes the argument a no-brainer.
