@CecilHurt: There is now an Aaron Murray Rule: QB is by definition a "defenseless" player if play involves change of possession.

@CecilHurt: Re: rule. Yes, the QB can still make the tackle. Can be blocked. Same interpretation as leaping WR, who can still make catch & be tackled.

Gotta protect the QBs
FWIW, Murray even said he has no ill will toward Dial for the hit. Said he (Murray) should've been paying attention.

If he's defenseless he shouldn't be able to make the tackle.

According to the rules at the time, Murray wasn't a defenseless player.

Based on the ejections and suspensions levied earlier in the year for less egregious hits, yes.
But, going by the rules, the hit was legal. The only questionable aspect was the proximity of the hit to Murray's head.

The QB can still be blocked. They just can't be cleaned out Dial-style.

What was he objecting to?

I believe he was objective about it in his mind. Not sure about the suspended part.

Shocker. I knew all of that lobbying by Richt and Co. would result in a rule change. If Murray didn't want to get hit then he shouldnt even appear to attempt a tackle. Didnt Richt mention last year about doing away with kickoffs?
UGA has some pull w/ the NCAA, just ask Vince Dooley and his opinion on excessive celebration.

Everyone knows it was a cheap shot, I cant believe he played in the NC.
What made it a cheap shot? The fact that the play was still live and Murray was jogging toward the ball carrier?
I'll agree that it was unnecessarily hard and Dial was looking to lay him out because he's a QB, but it's still football and players are still allowed to hit 1 another between the whistles
