"First of all, do we want or is football intended to be a continuous game? The second question is 'Because of the pace of the game, the accumulative effect of playing more plays... I think people misinterpret the fact that when you say player safety, is it about the pace of the game is faster? What I'm talking about is somebody needs to answer the question... in the NFL, they play 64 plays a game. We play over 80 plays a game in college, and fast-paced teams play more than that.' So a player is playing 25 or 30 more plays a game, so the accumulative effect of that over a season.... Is there something that has any effect on players' safety. I don't know the answer. I'm asking."

Nick...Bret has the answer. Where you not listening yesterday to his 15 second rule?

and Nick you didn't play over 80 plays a game, you played 898 plays. Over a 14 game season, that was 64.1 a game.

Has a nick saban coached team EVER defended 80 plays a game?.... you'd have to play 2-1/2 games to reach that total.

You're wrong. Don't tell Saban how to do math. If anyone knows how to divide, it's him. Just look what he's done to the LSU fanbase.

He's said this in the past, and I'm going to assume he meant it here too, but those 80 plays per game include punts and kicks. Those take their toll as well. We do play several starters on special teams.

To be honest it probably wasn't all that hard to divide the most unstable fanbase in the conference.

Texas A&M had 77 offensive plays. And that may have been what he was getting at. The no-huddle...

When you are defending a punt and a kick, you are not defending a HUNH offense but...

You punted 50 times last year. That is 3.5 a game. You had 90 PATs and FGs. That is 6.4 a game. You kicked off 99 times. That is 7.0 times a game.

That is 81.

You aren't playing your starters for every play and 85 players to chose from compared to the NFL. if he was concerned about player safety and the amount of plays, he would take every starter out when up.

it is what it is, he is just trying to justify his comments, even though they are unfounded

if you include special teams play that is anything but a hurry up. Never seen a team kickoff faster than another team or punt faster than another team.

When are bama fans and Saban gonna stop whining about this issue? All he does is complain.

I don't know what HUNH stands for.

Maybe thats why what he said makes zero sense to me.

It becomes relevant, though, when discussing the impact of running more plays. So even though those special teams plays are rarely at a "hurry up" pace, the offensive pace impacts the overall number of snaps that the players are on the field.

More snaps = higher risk of injury, higher chance of heat related illness, more opportunities for concussions, etc...

Nick Saban is a MFing genius.
