I know the sack record is considered to belong to Derrick Thomas with his absurd 27.5 or whatever. But I've also heard that's unofficial and not true.

If this is the case what is the official and how many did DT really have?

Also who believes Jadeveon "Peterbilt" Clowney has a chance of breaking it.

DT's sack numbers are legit. It was not a recognized NCAA Stat at the time he played. That's why in the SEC stat records you see an per date and post date for many stats that are "new" in a sense.

Clowney has no chance at breaking DT's record. I doubt he breaks any records and doesn't lead the SEC this year in sacks. He takes off too many plays and teams will scheme against him

He was 10th in the Heisman that amazing year and Teo comes in 2nd

Amazing

This is where the confusion comes from. Thanks.

As for Clowney, teams can't scheme against him bc of the rest of SCAR's stellar d line. He will lead the SEC in sacks and while the record seems near impossible I believe he can post 18-20 sacks.

Amazing

Well, you also have to compare them to the other people in their heisman seasons. If DT was in last year's heisman class, he would have easily beaten Te'o. Te'o probably wouldn't be in the top ten in DT's season.

Teo had no business in the Heisman race anyways. He was in it cuz he lucked up and made a few interceptions. Dude can't tackle a good running back to save his life.

I like Clowney but it's just not going to happen

For the youngins that didn't see DT play. Consider that he was a true LB not an every down rusher. Bennet, while there with DT rushed much more. Even in his 27 sack year he was in coverage or on the second level about 40-50% of the time.

And he dominated the next level as well, YouTube his nfl highlights. The dude took over games and impose his will.

DT vs Clowney could become the SECr's version of Jordan vs LBJ.

It would be fun to watch Clowney make a run at DT's record, but I doubt it will happen.

But I thought you couldn't get within 10 of 27 in a season the way Bama fans talk about it
