Those are some of my favs. What kind of food do you like?

Also, do you want to eat downtown in the bar district or does that matter?

Just a nice quite family type place. She's recovering from taking a bad fall and having to stay at a rehabilitation/ retirement home for a few weeks. Want to get her out and enjoy a nice dinner. As far as food goes nothing too over the top.

Do you like Chinese? On that side of town you could easily get to Leong's. That is the birthplace of Springfield cashew chicken. It's really good food and a must try for anyone coming to town. Definitely a Springfield tradition. Casual, family atmosphere that isn't going to break the bank.

If you want to drive a bit then there is this bad arse, off the beaten path Mexican place near my house that is amazing. We eat there all the time. It's called City Mexican Cuisine. The villa hermosa is my favorite thing to get. Soooooo good

LINK

My personal favorite restaurant to go in town is Avanzare. It's nice but not extremely expensive. I could eat their Tortellini Al Prosciutto every day of the week.

LINK

My favorite place to go get a burger and a beer is Galloway Station. They just moved to south Springfield off of Republic road so it wouldn't be too far of a drive for you. They have by far the best fried pickles I've ever eaten. They use a spicy dill spear that is just killer. Combine that with the Ragin'' Cajun
Burger and I'm in heaven.

They have a Waffle House.

Does Mizzou still allow smoking indoors? It was like going back into the 50s at that place, I don't know how you smoke while you eat...

No one in the state of Missouri knows what sweet tea is, much less how to make it.

So true. I tried ordering it initially when I moved here from Atlanta and eventually just gave up.

The fries were good. The fried pickles were really good (spears not chips). The burgers were great. The service was top notch (and the waitresses were cute too).

The sweet tea sucked. They did have a good beer selection.

I rarely make tea, but I'm thinking of trying a sweet tea and sweetening it with cane sugar and karo syrup, a little bit of mint and lemon and maybe just maybe some walnut or pecan extract if I can find some that isn't crazy overpowering.

Thinking like a pecan pie sweet tea abberation.

You run into the same thing in Oklahoma once you get to Tulsa going west.

The border towns do "OK".

Good sweet tea can be left on the counter overnight and be poured over your pancakes the next morning.

Anyone using Splenda or other artificial sweeteners will be punched in the throat.
