Watched The Sandlot last night after the fireworks show and started thinking, "is there any movie more American than the sandlot?" Obviously you can argue patriotic war movies, but as far as representing growing up as a kid (before iphones, when kids actually played outside) The Sandlot has everything to offer: baseball, s'mores, state fairs, tree houses, trash talking, scheming plans to get out of trouble and chaw.

Wow just realized this movie came out over 20 years ago, I'm getting old

I'll agree with The Sandlot over the War movies simply because almost all of us have a lot in common with the American experience those kids did, extremely few of us can personally relate to the experiences of a war hero.

Doesn't make the movies better or worse, just more tangible for me.

I actually had this same thought yesterday.

I can't think of a movie more American than The Sandlot. It's definitely not the most iconic though.
