Going to the LSU v UGA game and have friends in Snellville outside of ATL. How is the game day drive from Snellville to Athens? 1hr?, 2hr?

1 Hour. If Hwy 316 has traffic.... 7 hours

Meh. Honestly 78 may be a little quicker than taking 316. Traffic really depends on what time the game is and how early you decide to leave.

78 runs directly through snellville, it would be idiotic to use any other route to athens.
However, there will be traffic. There are backways but they are a little too complex for non-local.

You mean loganville. 78 through monroe is only 1 exit and no stoplights.

Pretty sure it will be the 3:30 game on CBS. Both teams should be undefeated. So plan for 2 hr drive?

I still mean Monroe. It must be one bad experience I've been through, not on gameday.

It's just a 4 lane divided highway with no stoplights, how could it be clusterfricked? Wreck? Road construction? Are you sure you aren't thinking of 138 or 11?

For OP
It won't talk long to get from Snellville to Athens, maybe 45 minutes. But getting from the edge of Athens to whereever you are going to park in Athens can take a long time.
And getting out of town will take longer as well.

Yes, was thinking we'd have to leave 8-9am. I'm sure the tailgating and general atmosphere will be worth the drive.

I live in Snellville so have made this drive hundreds of times.
It all depends on what time you leave. I leave hella early so it's an hour max to get from driveway to parking spot. If you leave in the middle of the day when the majority of people are heading that way, obviously you're gonna get some traffic. And I would avoid 316 if I were you, everyone from Atlanta/Gwinnett will be taking 316. Highway 78 runs directly through Snellville to Athens..I take that all the way to the Athens loop.
ETA: just saw that everything I said was already touched on. If you leave at 9est for a 3:30 game, you can probably expect to get in some traffic. Nothing too crazy though.
Your biggest issue is going to be parking. If you and your buddies are morning type people anyway, you might as well just leave at 7 or 8 to help cut down on the traffic even more.
Btw when you're on 78 East, coming from Snellville after you drive about ooohhhh 20ish minutes I guess you'll come to a town called Between which probably isn't even longer than 1 mile total. But the speed limit drops from 55 to 35 for that little stretch, so be careful.

Thanks for the info.
Parking. Yep, sure that will be another issue altogether.
Pink Floyd? Dawgs are cooler than I thought. Love The Floyd.

I read the state was shutting that down, Arcade on 129 got shut down for that crap and was even suspended for even writing tickets on 129 for a period of time. State Patrol will still getcha though.
I haven't driven that particular stretch in a while, but have driven it no less than 1000 times. How recent was the last time you drove through there and the speed limit dropped like that?

Have fun with the red lights every mile.

Good god I hope so.
Because I like you, I'll give you an alternate route.
About 15 to 20 minutes after you go through Monroe, turn right on 53/Hog Mountain Rd.
This will take you directly into downtown Watkinsville, Mett's home town, and where his momma still lives.
Turn left on Simonton Bridge Rd in downtown Watkinsville, and ten minutes later, turn left on South Milledge. This is a sneaky little back way into south Athens, instead of dealing with 78/ West Broad Street and 10 Loop traffic.

Red Lights every mile in Snellville, then one more town Loganville to get through, then it's wide open for 40 miles.

Okay, but if I start hearing the song from Deliverance, I'm gonna be mad.
