officially retiring. Tough break for the guy but health comes first. Hope he gets his degree and makes the most of that side.

Even if he was cleared to play, it was only a matter of time until the wrong hit at just the wrong time caused catastrophic damage. Wish him the best.

It's disappointing news but not totally unexpected. Here's a blurb from an article last fall:
quote:

Michael Richardson, a freshman backup linebacker out of DeSoto, played the second half of Texas A&M’s victory over Sam Houston State last week with a cervical spine injury. Richardson underwent surgery Sunday and is doing well, even attending team meetings Monday. But after seeing the X-ray, head coach Kevin Sumlin said the injury could have been “catastrophic.” Richardson recorded five tackles during the game, and it wasn’t until afterward that he complained of pain in his neck. “It’s a miracle, nothing short of it,” Sumlin said.

He played in a position of need for us this year but I certainly understand the virtue of hanging up the cleats rather than tempt fate. At the time, it didn't sound like the type of injury that one bounces back from but I suppose we were hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Neck injuries aren't the kind one takes lightly. In the end, I'm glad that everyone came to this conclusion.

Where are you seeing that from if you don't mind me asking. I looked for an article and can't find anything.

was told to me. I noticed Sumlin didn't release the retirees in the spring til practice started so I guess I shouldn't have used the word "official." It may not be til August that they make an announcement I guess.

Also was told of another potential other loss -- seems a recruiting class of '12 is looking into transferring (heard a Big 12 school too). Probably for the best as he likely wasn't going to play for us.

The only ones from '12 that I can think of that likely won't play are Sabian Holmes and Ken Marshall

Holmes originally committed to Baylor IIRC.
