where did the chant come from is my question. I grew up purple and gold. both my parents went there and I followed Lsu all my life until I decided to go to ole miss. I have never heard or found an explanation of how it got started. so any help would be great

I think it has something to do with a World War I chant. I had always assumed that "Hotty Toddy" started out as a derogatory term "they think they're just Hotty Toddy in Oxford" that we embraced and turned into a chant

I'm pretty sure that's totally not the case but that was always my best guess

Vendors selling Hot Toddys ( LINK) at games, yelling it out like they do popcorn and peanuts now.

ETA: I could be completely and totally wrong on this.

Found this to be an interesting read on the origin of the Hotty Toddy cheer.

Yup. It had an answer to his question so I posted it.

I'm just a rookie on this forum, so I am not familiar with the normal policies or anything, but by the sound of your post I assume I did something wrong?!

BR is turrible. No one uses BR as a source of any kind because their shite is total garbage.

It's derivative of "Hoity Toity" which means acting all uppity.

Marshall Henderson told me that he has never chanted Hotty Toddy and never will. He said it's the dumbest shite he's ever heard and Hotty Toddy is the reason why everyone who is not a Rebel fan hates Ole Miss. Shortly after he told me that he started to do the Texas Tech guns up.

Come on, we're talking about Oxford, Mississippi here. Do you really think there was eve a moment when we actually sold scotch at football games? We have to hide our booze, lock our coolers, buy our beer cold, and live in the last state to have repealed prohibition. Think about it.
