Broken down by the 5 current "power" conferences

(7) SEC : 5 of Top 10 (50%) : 7 of Top 25 (28%)
Top 10 <.....> Alabama #1 / Louisiana State #3 / Florida #4 / Texas A&M #8 / Georgia #9
Top 25 <..> South Carolina #15 / Auburn #23

(7) ACC : 2 of Top 10 (20%) : 7 of Top 25 (28%)
Top 10 <..> Notre Dame #6 / Florida State #7
Top 25 <.....> Clemson #13 / Louisville #16 / Miami #18 / Virginia Tech #20 / North Carolina #21
(while technically IND with the 5 game deal, Notre Dame is ACC leaning)

(5) B 12 : 0 of Top 10 (0%) : 5 of Top 25 (20%)
Top 10 <> NONE
Top 25 <.....> Texas #12 / Oklahoma #14 / Oklahoma State #17 / TCU #19 / Baylor #24

(4) PAC : 1 of Top 10 (10%) : 4 of Top 25 (16%)
Top 10 <.> Stanford #10
Top 25 <...> Oregon #11 / UCLA #22 / Southern Cal #25

(2) B1G : 2 of Top 10 (20%) : 2 of Top 25 (8%)
Top 10 <..> Ohio State #2 / Michigan #5
Top 25 <> NONE

Some observations:
- Big 12 is supposed to be the 2nd strongest yet has no Top 10 and is below both the ACC and SEC
- ACC has 7 for a conference that has fallen since they went to 12 members
- B1G continues to be a 2 team conference - Nebraska and Penn State must feel left out
- PAC may be the second best conference in the country but not by this groups calculations
- ESPN owns ACC + SEC (14 of 25 spots) / shares B12 + PAC (9 of 25 spots) / FOX via BTN (2 of 25 spots)

What the hell? I thought Louisville was the new big dog on the street?

And FSU 7 spots above Oklahoma?

ESPN has a topic about who the Top 25 football powers will be over the next 3 years. They calculated it using these component parts and weights.

1. Coaching - Value: 27.5 %
2. Current Talent - Value: 27.5 %
3. Recruiting - Value: 15.0 %
4. Title Path - Value: 10.0 5
5. Program Power - Value: 20.0 %

I really like this point at the end.

Both landmass schools will be very good in 2014. The SEC west that year will be scary good

Here is the base LINK but the main story is behind the paywall of ESPN so I was not trying to conflict with the rules for posting content.

I was also not trying to drive hits when they have a vested interest in pimping the ACC.

It is what I like to do on the Rant in terms of promoting big picture discussion instead of getting fixated on the smaller but more polarizing issues.

Louisville beat one ranked team last season. Florida.

OU is struggling a bit in recruiting right now.

ND shouldn't be considered in the ACC's calculations since they only play 5 ACC teams a year.

So you're saying that means nothing because Florida is/was way overrated?

To me they are a hybrid that becomes an ACC team over time after their older fans die off. While they want to be IND those days are in the rear view mirror in the age of the mega conferences. If they are the lone holdout it is harder to stay that way. While I may not agree bigger is better the powers that be seem to, so it will happen.

Unlike the Irish hiding out in the Big East those 5 games was a big concession and at least a hint that they must choose at some point down the road if they want to be in the playoff hunt. 5 games is much closer to 8 than it is to 0 and the ACC has the most private schools of the remaining choices. As a hybrid where else could you put them?

I hope ND goes to a full time ACC schedule and SEC/ACC can work a regular season tie in. We already have three and this would solve part of the major OOC problem.

I have this odd feeling that is already underway. Here is the ND vs SEC history and Vandy / Mizzou make the most sense.

Alabama 5-2
Florida 1-0 (already has Florida State on schedule)
Georgia 0-1 (already has Georgia Tech on schedule)
LSU 5-5
Ole Miss 1-1
Mizzou 2-2 : Could play in KC or STL for recruiting
South Carolina 3-1 (already has Clemson on schedule)
Tennessee 4-4 : Good series already
Texas A&M 3-2 : already playing longhorns for TX recruiting
Vanderbilt 2-0 : Could play in LP Field

Never played : Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky (has UL on schedule), and Miss. State

I count 4
Gators vs FSU
Cocks vs CU
Dawgs vs GT
Cats vs UL

I was thinking a rotation, save UGA/GaTech, UF/FSU, SCar/Clemson. Assuming ACC gets a 14th team (which seems likely) rotating the other 11 matchups. It would be good if they did it by pecking order in conference from previous year.
