Ya, seems risky. I would allow a few days of doing this to make sure you get out.

Although, I doubt they would lie to you.

Book a tee time for two, call on your way to course and say you had a last minute cancellation.

many times singles can gst worked in, especially midweek.
prepare to pay handsomely. Nice California course green fees are outrageous.

yes, I would say north of 200 for the premier courses. Pebble is around 400, for walkups.
even mediocre courses like old del Monte in Monterey is over $100.

also for the OP, if you're wanting to play torrey pines, there are two courses. the main one, the one used for the US open in 08, is the South course, I think. the north course may be nice, but won't be the famous one. it's probably cheaper to play, but I'm guessing here.

Most famous place I've played is Princeville on Kauai. Best course I've ever played is Crystal Downs in Frankfort Mi.

Torrey Pines green fees

not as bad as I thought. will cost more to book in advance, though. but that's not what you want to do anyway.
real good rates for San Diego residents. South course is more expensive.

Torrey South is $183 and North is $100. If you call to make a tee time they charge a $40 booking fee. Figured I'd just try to play both and check it off the list.
