Yes, it's absolutely horrible. You should hit the interstate immediately. Alabama isn't that far away...

Eat at Tupelo Honey in Market Square for food. Preservation Pub if you are going for vast beer selection. If you are going for mixed drinks...probably Sapphire.

For food: Tupelo Honey, Tomato Head (both in Market Square) or Nama Sushi Bar (few blocks away on Gay St).

To drink: Preservation Pub (Market Square), Downtown Grill and Brewery (Gay St) or Half Barrel (The Strip).

If you want to leave the downtown UT area check out Dead End BBQ and Bearden Beer Market.

Tons of options downtown. All of these are my favorite places.

I forgot to ask...are you going to be downtown, or in West Knoxville? It makes a big difference for convenience sake.

The Preservation Pub is great for beer, but if you like good craft beer I highly recommend Suttree's High Gravity Tavern, just a short walk from Market Square. Real good stuff there. I was there last week and had a flight of each of the new New Belgium offerings and the Game of Thrones beer.

I heard the chili dogs are really good. I'm skeptical, though, since they put mayo on them instead of mustard.

Shoneys are still big in Tennessee, but no longer in Knoxville. In the economic downturn, UT fans had to find more affordable accommodations.

I wasn't impressed with Peyton's favorite hamburger place. Overpriced and really average.

I forget the name. It was up north.

I believe the name of the joint is "Unimpressive Burgers and Fries".
