I'm tired of everyone writing on the SECRant that the SEC has ruled college football over the past 7 years. What's more interesting to note is that the SEC Western Division's best years took place before the division was even created...national titles were won every year by future SEC West teams during the decade of dominance of 1957-66.

1957 Auburn (consensus)
1958 LSU (consensus)
1958 Auburn (Montgomery Full Season Championship)
1959 Mississippi (Clyde Berryman, Dunkel System, Jeff Self, Loren Maxwell, Massy Ratings, Sagarin Ratings, Soren Sorensen, The Fleming System)
1959 LSU (Montgomery Full Season Championship)
1960 Mississippi (1st-N-Goal, Angelo Louisa, Bill Libby, Billingsley Report, Century Football Index, College Football Researchers Association, Dunkel System, Football Writers Association of America, Harry DeVold, Harry Frye, James Howell, James Whalen, Jim Koger, Mel Smith, Montgomery Full Season Championship, National Championship Foundation, Patrick Premo, The State's National Champions, Williamson System)
1961 Alabama (consensus)
1962 Mississippi (Billingsley Report, David Wilson, Edward Litkenhous, Jeff Self, Nutshell Sports Football Ratings, Sagarin Ratings, The State's National Champions)
1962 Alabama (Montgomery Full Season Championship)
1962 LSU (Clyde Berryman)
1963 Alabama (Jim Koger)
1964 Alabama (consensus)
1964 Arkansas* (consensus)
1965 Alabama (consensus)
1965 Arkansas* (Montgomery Full Season Championship)
1966 Alabama (ARGH Power Ratings, Cliff Morgan, Clyde Berryman, Earl Jessen, National Championship Foundation, Soren Sorensen)

* - represented the Southwest Conference

I like how y'all give Alabama shite for some of their titles but claim one while being on a bowl ban.

Alabama won the AP and Coaches/UPI in 1964. Arkansas won the FWAA trophy.

They were really kind of "co-consensus" choices, I suppose. Arky took the FWAA's trophy, which was one of the big three awards back then (AP and UPI being the other two). Auburn only got the '57 AP trophy back in '57, so I guess that they would be co-consensus with Ohio State, and so on...

That would be the definition of non-consensus.

I literally figuratively think that's what it is.

I do, but there are just way too many groups out there that designate mythical national champions to list each and every last one of them every single year. It's just a LOT faster to type "consensus" if a team took one or more of the main three awards from back then (AP, UPI, and FWAA).

Interesting thread, OP.

Which, in the off season, means it will be shat upon.

There were 4, not 3. The NFF.

Anyone who tries to claim 1962 (except for Southern Cal) is full of shite.
