PM says they keep hearing we're in very good shape. His offer to UK is conditional on other bigs going elsewhere, but they're after 2 or 3 higher rated guys than Bryant. We absolutely need to land Bryant if we want to take a big step forward next year.

I like the idea of the Kyle Meyer kid. He's not ultra athletic, but did play for Iowa for a year. Has touch out to the 3 pt line, plus I think he has 3 years eligibility. Also he doesn't seem like a risk as far as attitude or anything. It seems he left Iowa in search of more PT as they had 2 young bigs ahead of him

Thanks, that's good news. Bryant would be a big piece for us.

Maybe not a good sign. If true, I'll pass.

Why do you think most people transfer Reedus? Who would you prefer?

You guys think Thon Maker might have something to do with that? Bryant has a motor and a mean streak that would equate very well to what this team needs

Put me in the minority, i'd rather have Bryant than Maker. Maker is a stud, but the hype for him is what he will become AFTER college. I was a college player not an NBA player. Think Wiggins, he wasn't actually that great at ku and everyone was riding his train for what he would become after.

I'd probably agree with you about Maker. Plus Bryant might be a 3 to 4 year player.

I seriously doubt that Maker ever plays in college. By all reports his handlers are looking for an immediate payday, look for him to head to Europe next year.

I was saying Maker going to UK not to us. Don't think we have the finances. Especially with Fuller in the NCAA doghouse right now

Yea I don't think he plays college ball period. He can go to Europe and get a huge payday.

I'm not a fan of transfers period. Wasn't under Haith and am not now. I understand it has become part of the game and I understand from time to time you hit a home run with a transfer. But most of the reasons I can think for a kid wanting to transfer are not good reasons. Not good enough to play where he was, so why do I want him. Conflict with the prior coach, so why do I want him. Like I said, I'm sure there are good examples of transfers, but I'm just not a fan to the concept probably moreso than the player.

recruiting update from rockmnation LINK

I agree with the author in that I think Mizzou will have 3 schollies to give out. Going to s Big, wing scorer, & 5th year player.

KA is seeing Martavian Payne tonight. Unranked JUCO guard with no offers right now. I did find this scouting report on him, it's very complimentary but does call him a mid major. Hopefully he's a backup plan.

quote:

John A Logan sophomore 6’2” shooting guard Martavian Payne is one of the best pure scorers I have seen on the JUCO level this year. He can beat a defense in so many ways and is just a flat out scorer! He excels with his elite athleticism and speed in the transition game both pushing it and as a wing finisher. The sophomore likes to create turnovers and turn them into buckets at the other end to get himself and his team going.

In the half court Payne has shown the ability to score at all three levels. He is slippery in traffic with his handles getting through tight spaces for buckets slashing to the hoop. He shoots it with ease including a plus pull up shot from both mid-range and three. Payne has a knack for scoring in bunches and putting his team on his back for stretches. Defensively he is active moving his feet and creating turnovers. Any mid-major looking for a bucket getter should be knocking down Payne’s door! He is also garnering some high major attention.

We spoke with the Logan standout about his season.

“It is going good. We are off to a great start with a great record. It is really going well. I am stepping up real big for my team and being a leader.”

What areas has he improved the most as a sophomore?

“I would say my ball handling, rebounding, and playing defense.”

Payne has helped take a leadership role this year as well.

“I am just being a leader for my team. You know being a sophomore I have to step up and lead the freshmen.”

What is the status of his recruitment?

“It is going good. I have a couple big schools calling me so I am just keeping my head up and waiting on more. I have been talking to Tennessee and North Carolina Central and coach told me a couple more schools had called.”

Middle Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Bradley, SIU, California, Purdue, Jacksonville State, and TCU are a few of the other programs recruiting the scoring guard.

We offered Payne and his 6'8 SF or faceup 4 man teammate Russell Woods. He's not rated but has an offer to k-state.

Two more offers?

Doesn't sound good.

We have a lot of offers out there and few spaces (as of now).

Apparently we offered Woods as a Center, but he's rail thin and not super tall at 6'9, he's supposed to be a defensive guy but not much of a scorer. KA might want to look for someone who can score inside if he's going to insist on throwing it into the post every possession.

I really don't care for these offers, they both have been described as mid major players from what I've read. Not sure they're good enough to provide the immediate help we need.

The current state of recruiting has me more concerned than the play on the court, and that's saying something.
