re: Couple of Dave Matter Pieces on Renovations

I thought I read somewhere that Earleywine's choice for a new softball stadium would be east of the Hearnes Center. Has anyone else heard anything about this? If they go that direction, that'll be another blow to football parking. Unless they eliminate the Hearnes Center, build a softball stadium there, create a tailgating area with green spaces, and build a new home for gymnastics, volleyball, wrestling and indoor T&F somewhere else in the sports park area.

This seems like a stretch to me. Thoughts?

One frickin house and a creek, otherwise I'd say there's a lot of land south of Hearnes and across the street from Mizzou Arena. I suppose none of that land is an option? You could tie into the existing parking lot and everything.

We do need some green space for tailgating and considering how compact things are by the stadium and the Hearns Center I would tear it down and use that area to put up some trees and BBQ pits. Kinda like South Carolina has with their new area right across the street from their stadium.

The Hearnes Center has seen better days and we really don't need a 10,000 seat arena for wrestling, volleyball and Track and Field IMO.

I agree, and the Hearnes Center isn't really generating any revenue for the university, is it? The big arena concerts in Columbia generally use the Arena now, right?

Tear it down and build some good shite there with a nice tailgate area.

That's getting close to the President's house.

And there are a lot of events held at the Hearnes Center. Don't know how profitable they are though.

I thought they decided Providence Point (or whatever the president's house is called) was going to just become a fancy meeting room. They don't live there anymore, do they?

I can't wait until the football expansion is done, but I noticed they haven't said hardly anything about the south EZ expansion. As you can see in the rendering below, the south EZ is larger and has the suites/club section added also. I know it is "optional" in that if the demand isn't there then they won't do that part of the plan, but I haven't heard anything recently on the chances of it happening (although it would be in a few years anyways)

it was always supposed to be phased. That's supposed to be the next phase. I'm mostly pissed about losing the fulled covered portion of the new edition.

re: Couple of Dave Matter Pieces on Renovations

There are a lot of older homes in the east campus area, and I believe there are some professors that live there as well as students. But the President's house, I think, is south of Hearnes Center, bordering that nature area where the trail goes through.

ETA - I checked this out. The President's Home is known as Providence Point, and it is located to the south of Hearnes, in the wooded area. It is over 12,000 sq ft, 8 bedrooms, and serves both as a private residence and a multi-purpose space for certain events - likely private fundraisers, etc.

There has been discussion about whether the next system president will live there, or if that person will be given a housing allowance and Providence Point converted to a University venue. But it likely wouldn't be torn down.

I love the look of the expansion. I wish they'd put seating on each side of the "M". Unless they plan on adding that at a later phase. But I guess my daughter will enjoy running or sitting on the grass when we go to some games this fall.

It looks like the angle of the new hill matches the angle of the rest of the stadium. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets some seats if it ever becomes a requirement.
