I bought something on eBay yesterday and immediately after I paid via PayPal, I realized it was a scam. Talked to eBay and PayPal, who both said that they can't do anything to rectify it until the seller goes 7 days without sending the product or making contact.

I know that I will be refunded the money eventually, but I am concerned about somebody having my PayPal info and home address.

Any precautions I should take to make sure I don't get f'ed up via ID/credit theft, or do I just need to chill? Obviously, I won't be responding to any emails requesting my bank account info, PayPal password, etc. I'll be on high alert for a while. But, what is the worst they can do with my email and home address if they don't have anything else?

If you post your info here I will be able to check on those things and make sure all is well for you.

Had this happen recently as well.. luckily the amount was showing as processing from mybank and paypal.. so i went to paypal and canceled the trans action. Worth a shot. until the 10 day limit or whatever is up.

As far as address etc.. I'm not sure that anything can be done in the short term.

Nothing as long as your password isn't some bullshite like "password". Unless they can get into your PayPal or email account to get more information you should be fine.

Physically rob it.

Get a P.O. Box for the future, they're not that expensive and you never have to give your personal address to anyone or any entity you don't wish to in the future.

Tried that IMMEDIATELY after I hit send. They said that I had to wait for it to play out. I told them that they are losing money bc the seller has 9 items for sale and more people are falling into the trap and PayPal will ultimately be picking up the tab.

That is what I am thinking. Thanks.

You are probably right, but I am not worried about them coming to my house. Maybe I should be, but I am not.

Just out of curiosity, what did you try to buy? Have a link to the guy's eBay page/store?

ETA: just do what PayPal tells you to do. There isn't much the guy can do to you.

Scammers Ebay Profile.

It was 2 copies of Insanity. $53 seemed to good to be true... I f***ing knew better than that.

Yeah, I have had similar things happen before, but those times, they looked legit and the item never showed up. This one was glaringly a scam, but I was multi-tasking at work and not paying attention.

I mean, who puts "fart" in the username?? Also, all of the positive feedback is from the same day within an hour of each other. As Charles Ramsey would say... "Dead giveaway.... Dead giveaway." Just wasn't paying attention.

he's got a 100% feedback score.

eta: I see about the "feedback ". nm.

the problem you have for the moment, is that ebay gets its fair share of buyers that try to scam, or at least, renege on paying for stuff they bought. hopefully time will work in your favor.

good luck.

Why did you all the sudden think it was a scam?

I bought similarly priced insanity last year on Ebay, and like you almost immediately convinced myself it was a scam. However, about a week and a half later my bootlegged insanity program arrived in the mail. Clearly counterfeit, but works just fine.

Dont be concerned about your address, they arent. They just want the money. And your paypal info is secure, just make sure you dont click any links from emails that say from paypal(might not actually be them) in the future. type the site in directly to your browser

What really tipped me off was when I paid via Paypal, I saw his email address. It was like xxjkdhggs361@hotmail.com.

So, then I looked deeper:

I knew that he had 100% feedback and had been on eBay for a while, but when I looked into the specific feedback, it is all from him being a buyer - not a seller. And, it is all him buying cheap shite to just get positive feedback. And, all of his feedback came in 1 hour. I suspect that he bought a bunch of little things from "power sellers" who just immediately give positive feedback.

So, then I noticed that he has nothing else for sale. (Who just sells 9 Insanity programs and doesn't have anything else to sell and has never sold anything before... and never bought anything until today).

Like I said, if I has looked under the hood, all of this would have been obvious, but I was moving fast and juggling a few things. Got in a hurry and made a mistake.

Not worried bc I'll get my $106 back. Just hate falling for such an obvious scam.

I hope not. If so, I'll return it as "item not as described" bc I bought a real one from the Insanity website today.

I hate PayPal, they've hurt me much more than they've helped me. Allowing users chargebacks when I sell, and allowing users to steal from me when the seller attempts to scam me.

Just got an email that they have delisted the item because it was against eBay policy (i.e., fraudulent) , BUT....

"there is still the possibility that you will receive the item, so we can't refund your money until 10 days after the purchase."
