The whole Deshaun Watson Clemson debacle has got me wondering what does tRant think about commits of their team visiting elsewhere.

I personally think their should be some formality to commiting to a school. The player should minimize their contact with all other schools and shouldn't take any visits elsewhere and truly act commited to their school. If they do visit somewhere else their commitment should be dropped. This would cut down on a lot of early commitments but it would also cut down on the countless flipzillas every year.

Acceptable imo.

Acceptable. It's the one time in that recruit's career where he has the power and not the school. Plus a lot of these kids wouldn't see these places otherwise.

All's fair before the LOI is signed. Kid should do what they want when they want.

No problem. I've seen more than enough to come to the conclusion: I believe a commit when he signs a LOI...and not 1 minute before.

A verbal commitment just gives coaches a rough numbers estimate and fans something to chew on during the offseason. Absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Exactly, to me a kid doesn't owe any school or their fans a thing. His life his choice.

I agree 100% its their life, if they want to visit somewhere else its not the school's place to stop them, but I do think they should have their "commitment" status dropped. This in theory would give people an idea of who the truly commited are.

I disagree on the commitment part. What if said recruit was solid as hell to your school, and going on visits able to talk recruiting with other top targets of your school? Doing work to build up his incoming class to your school (in your case our school..lol). I don't have a problem with it. yes it used to be frustrating till I changed my perception of this very issue.

Good point Rocky. I didn't look at it that way. Damn recruiting's difficult, lol. I still think there should be more formality to recruiting to make commitments reliable and worth something. I really wish there was an earlier signing day for the guys who want to get it over with and focus on their senior year.

This is what needs to happen. Basketball does it, I don't see why football doesn't

Honestly if I was a recruit I wouldn't commit until I finished all my visits but if you start dropping every commit that visits elsewhere you're gonna be hurting on talent.

The term "commitment" just means your school is in the lead at that time. That is all. Perfectly ok for the kid to look around to make sure.

As long as they haven't signed, it's acceptable. It's might not be popular, but they're allowed to do it.

I only like an early signing period if there's a clause that allows the recruit to void the contract in case of coaching change, probation, etc.

Agreed Silver. Has to be some provisions that allow for changes they can't control.

They can do as they please, it's their recruitment.

Same goes for the school, it's their scholarship, so they can set the terms. They are villainized for the perceived unfairness, but it's their right to do so. If you don't don't agree with the rules enforced, you should probably de-commit and probably should have never committed in the 1st place...
