I saw my first Ala/Tenn game as a 12-year old in 1945. I grew up hearing both sides waiting to rate how good their team was until the "Third Saturday in October." I am as entrenched in that tradition as most fans of the schools.

But that was then. I think that Coach Saban has a good idea when he said that he would like for Bama players to have the opportunity to play every other team in the conference if they were at Bama for four years. Such a rotating schedule would require nine conference games and a true rotating schedule. It would eliminate any "favoritism" (either real or perceived) in scheduling. Seems to me it is time to realize we have a 14-team conference and schedule accordingly.

You should check out the Roommate Switch thread. It's a pretty good system.

Thought I was looking for similar threads, but it was a few pages down, and I (being uncreative by nature) didn't think to look under "Roommate Switch."

There is more than one way to make this work, but I really think we will have to bend in our insistence on "Third Saturday," and I believe that would be worth while for all concerned. Thanks for alerting me to the other thread.

I love level headed bama fans. My wife has some bama alum in her family and there's this old gump I absolutely love talking football with. I enjoy talking sports with him more than most LSU fans.

In short, yes, I agree.

I will say, if Alabama and Tennessee want to play each other, they should have the right to play each other....

Mike Slive needs to get on the ball and start satisfying everybody here...

Good post, and this SEC newbie agrees. I want A&M to play everybody. That may be tougher on lower tier teams, but that just means they need to pick it up. With an 8-game schedule A&M players could go through 4 years and never play, for example, Georgia. That ain't right.

Under the current BCS system a 9-game conference schedule might end up leaving an SEC team out of the NC. But with the new 4-team playoff system I think it's very unlikely the top SEC team gets left out.

This might hurt my feelings, if I had any.

Not sure what you're saying. Are you in favor of keeping it an 8-game schedule?

Appreciate the kind remarks. Turned 80 back in Feb. Not really a computer expert, but not afraid of them either. I check the Rant quite often, but seldom post. Not a "flamer" by nature, but enjoy the give and take between fan bases.

By the way, I wasn't gone, just "took a nap."
