We are headed there for the first time this weekend. Going to their rock festival. Since we'll have two free days does anyone have any suggestions of sites or things to do other than the Alamo?

I'd say NBA playoffs, but it looks like SA will sweep Memphis at this point.

That would be cool. The festival is actually right outside the arena, which seems a bit odd.

Alamo, Riverwalk, Sea World, haunted railroad tracks if you rent a car. I'll keep thinking. TBird should have some good ideas also, he knows the area.

Hell, forgot about Seaworld being there.

ETA: We are staying downtown and taking my car so the others shouldn't be a problem.

San Antonio sucks. Riverwalk is fun in an overpriced tourist trap way, but it's kind of a hassle to find normal restaurants and stores outside of that without input from a local.

I'd use the trip as an excuse to eat at the Grist Mill in Gruene, TX on your way. It's also touristy and overpriced but the scenery is nice, specially on a Sunny day.

Head like 45 minutes north and go float the river.

So you have to go to Chris Madrid's and take a year off your life by having the Tostada Burger.

After that nothing like going to Big Lou's and getting a 42" pizza between friends

Then you can try the Four Horseman Burger Challenge at Chunky Burger I recommend eating Ice Cream afterwards so you have something to look forward to as your a-hole ignites into a lava poop mess.

There is another burger joint near the base that puts like a 1/4lbs of bacon in their bacon cheeseburger.

Cora's Grill if you want a white persons take on Nachos.

Dziuks Meat Market for awesome meats and sausage and jerkys.

The Japanese Garden is pretty cool for like 5 seconds.

Fiesta Texas.

Then I heard some shite is going down in Gruene starting this weekend.

Edit Sorry Lackland Base for the random burger place

Don't eat Bill Millers it's the worst chain BBQ I've ever had in my life. ( That's also including shitty yankee BBQ places) Rudy's is one of the best chain BBQ places and they have one there. By no means am I saying Rudy's is good BBQ though so don't try and quote me on that.

Fiesta Texas is legit, but I'm partial to Sea World

Definitely go up in the Tower of the Americas in HemisFair Park.

For eats, hit up Tomatillo's on Broadway. Everyone has a favorite Mexican place, but that one's my family's fave

Institute of Texan Cultures is fun.

Brackenridge Park/San Antonio Zoo is actually a better time than you'd think

The Riverwalk is a really good time. Yes, it is an unabashed tourist trap, but that doesn't really hamper the experience IMO.

Oh, and ignore the SA haters.

The Alamo City is every true Texan's favorite town aside from his hometown

Spur, the only reason people hate on SA is because they only go to the tourist traps and don't go to the actual local places. I enjoy SA every time I go.

Texas cities for me

Houston > SA > Austin

Dallas is probably the 2nd coolest city in Oklahoma behind Stillwater

The area around the Riverwalk is pleasant enough, although perhaps a little touristy.

Even as a Galvestonian, I feel comfortable in saying that it's time for the San Mexicans to clean up their river.

Yeah I just love how it winds through all those big trees. The least impressive part was the river itself.
