The job was open and he was available, yet he chose South Carolina. Was Spurrier even offered by Florida?

Because the AD said he would have to go through the interview process and Spurrier said frick it.

Always wondered this. I really wish he had gone back. I love watching film of the old Spurrier coached Florida teams.

I remember after the 2004 season thinking there was no way Spurrier would not end up back at Florida. He had been out of coaching for a year and the Florida job had basically been open since Zook got Croomed.

Plus I think Spurrier wanted to start somewhere new instead of going back to Florida

This!

Foley actually told Spurrier to submit his resume.

Spurrier should have told him, "Hey, a-hole, my resume is sitting out there in your trophy case."

Spurrier has said that he though USCe was the better job.

ETA: I wasn't there when he said it, so this could be wrong.

It is interesting to think how Florida would have been had Spurrier returned. I think Chris Leak would have thrived in a Spurrier offense, assuming he went back to the fun n' gun. The big question is Tim Tebow in a Spurrier offense. How would that shite have worked out?

It wasn't Foley, it was supposedly Machen that said that about the resume.

I'm not sure Spurrier coming back would have been the right move. We got new blood in the program who was incredibly successful.

I think he didn't want to deal with the ridiculous expectations at Florida.

Would have worked out the same way John Brantley did in Meyer's offense-poorly

and i agree with him 100%. aftger everything he did at florida as a player and coach making him interview for the job was a stupid snub. he always was a short tempered guy and if the ad didn't know that he was a stupid sob. sometimes these administration types are fools.

Better question is how different would things be if Bertman had given Saban his old job back like he asked before he went to Bama.

I can imagine that interview.

Foley - So, what makes you qualified for this job?

Spurrier - Are you fricking stupid?
