Most -- If Not All -- SEC Defenses Were Better Than Notre Dame

I've been waiting on a response to a bid the last few days, and given the wonders of youtube and abject boredom, I have watched every game of Alabama's 2012 season. Woohoo.
Anyway, watching all those games in such a condensed fashion really showed me how superior SEC defenses are to the rest of the country.
Every team Alabama played put up a fight -- except Auburn. They made plays on defense. They sacked AJ. Some even caused fumbles and picked him off. They were always tenacious, and they were always willing to fight -- at least for three quarters or so.
Not until the Championship game did a team just roll over and take it. Notre Dame was supposed to be one of the best defenses in the country, but Mizzou put up a better fight.
It's not anything new or insightful, but the SEC's reputation for salty defenses is well earned and apparent to anyone who watches the game.
They can try to prop up the SEC's next opponent in the NC all they want, but at the end of the day, it's all just noise, and last year proves that. The worst teams in the SEC -- not counting Auburn -- did a better job of stopping Alabama than one of the supposed best defenses in the nation.
You can't even use the excuse that ," Well...they play each other every year. They know tendencies." Neither A&M or Mizzou had played Alabama in recent memory.
I guess it's a culture thing, and I like it.

I watched that game, and while Bama beat the brakes off you guys, I still think you played with more grit than they did.
Take it for what it's worth.
Take it for what it's worth.

I agree to a certain extent but Alabama I'm sure played down to a few teams, the week in week out of a schedule is tiring, then there's that whole month off of constant antler spray for the championship.

Can't argue with that. UT's defense was almost as bad as the Saints.

Ingram played defense? I never knew that.

Does this really need to be said after the National Chumpionship game?

Keep working on that post count. 3 posts on the first page and still no substance added to the thread.

You raise a valid point. Teams do play down. Teams do get worn down, but you would think the playing field would be pretty level -- in a general sense. It's not like Notre Dame wasn't given the same amount of time to prepare as Alabama or did not have the same incentive to play well. They were actually given more time.
And as far as incentive, they had more incentive than some SEC that were already out of any kind of title contention to play their best.
Still, watching all those games in binge fashion makes it seem like SEC defenses did a better job of playing Alabama than the national runner up, at least to me.
Now, why that is the case is open for debate.

ND crossed midfield, and actually scored.

Notre Dame's football team was crucified by Nick Satan.

i disagree and it's not because of their talent so much as bob diaco. i'd trade grantham for him in a new york minute

Not all that crazy about Grantham either after last year, but even with all the rushing yards we gave up in that game, we at least made some stops and affected their passing game at times.
Alabama had their way with Notre Dame's defense in every possible way. They had the same caliber of players, recruiting wise, that we did and that game didn't convince me at all that they were any better coached.
