Depends on what you mean by "Alabama culture".

My answer is Birmingham though.

Can I live in Mountain Brook? If so, then I choose the Tragic City.

Alabama is one of the few states that you don't really think of a major city when you think of the state. Louisiana, NO obviously. With Georgia it's ATL or Savannah if you are thinking strictly culture. SC would be Charleston. Alabama doesn't seem to have one other than Tuscaloosa, but it's not a major city. Was curious what people from Alabama in particular thought the best representation of their state was.

There are truly 3 or 4 divergent cultures in Alabama. That being said, the east/s.e. Birmingham suburbs probably go the farthest to represent a culture in one general area.

Grew up in Mobile, so I count. I'm still going with Birmingham in that case. La isn't as cut and dry as you make it though. Sure NOLA is the first place you think of, but the culture there is nothing like North Louisiana.

Mississippi has a similar issue to Alabama. The only city is Jackson, but that's a poor representation of Miss. The coast has it's own culture, and the delta does too.

This pretty much. The gulf coast of AL has a different culture than the rest of the state, but Birmingham represents most of the varying cultures found in AL.

People crap on Alabama. It really is an underrated state to live in. Beautiful state, tons of money(whether you believe it or not), and great people. I've lived in 7 states. The only place I would rather live than Bama is Charleston, SC.

The burbs around Bham are nice but the city of Birmingham is just awful. Outside of UAB, city of Birmingham offers nothing.

Ive lived in Lexington KY, Birmingham AL, and now St. Louis. Birmingham is probably my favorite even over Lexington. Cant really say why. Always had a good time there and would move back in a heart beat.

Neither. Both are an example of urban decay just like what you can find in any other part of the country.
