If Bob Stoops were to come and coach at UK would anyone in the SEC be nervous? Asking around the nation many would consider Stoops a top 5 coach in the NCAA.

He has 149–37 Career Victories, 1 National Championship (2000)and 8 Big 12 Championships (2000,2002,2004,2006,2007,2008,2010,2012) not to mention played in 2 more BCSNC's. That being said, most people would feel some heat if Big Game Bob were to enter the league and rightfully so.

Now think about this. Before Stoops became a H.C. at Oklahoma he was the D.C. at Florida from 1996-1998. Like Bob, Mark Stoops has also followed a similar path by becoming the D.C. at Florida State and now is the H.C. at Kentucky. Considering the fact that Kentucky is not Oklahoma the transition will be much more difficult than in Norman.

Having Mark Stoops at Kentucky is the same as having Bob Stoops at Kentucky. It will take some time and recruits but as Mark says, "Kentucky Football Is A Sleeping Giant." & We at UK are very lucky to have Stoops as our Head Coach.

Year Team Overall Conference Standing Bowl/playoffs Coaches# AP°

2011 Oklahoma 10–3 6–3 T–3rd W Insight 15 16
2012 Oklahoma 10–3 8–1 T–1st L Cotton 15 15
Oklahoma: 149–37 92–22
Total: 149–37

We will not win a National Championship at UK but we are going to beat a lot of people in the SEC.

What exactly makes Kentucky football a sleeping giant?

Fantastic in-state talent? No

Great tradition? No

Best facilities around? No

No offense to Bob, but he would be at best the 4th best coach in the SEC, and it would be hard for anyone IMO to win consistently at UK. Basketball will ALWAYS be top dog there, and it doesn't have some of the built in advantages as several of the other SEC schools do(LSU, UGA, A&M, and UF with in-state recruiting).
I do think he could put yall as a consistent 8-9 win team(occasional 10+), and a thorn in the side to the top SEC teams.

Proximity to states with top ranked talent will propel Kentucky Football

UK is a National brand and the ground work is already laid for our football program.

Realistically, he'll probably be more like Mike Stoops at Kentucky than Bob at OU.

Is this a serious question or a joke? You're talking about Kentucky football man.

Put the pipe down and come back to reality.

All Alabama has to do is hire Kirby Smart when Nick Saban retires? Or better yet his son, Nicholas Saban?

I like Mark Stoops and think he could be the best coach UK has had in my lifetime and I am glad he is here.... However...
quote:

Kentucky Football Is A Sleeping Giant.

Um... no. Every coach says this at every introductory press conference. They just got handed a job paying millions of dollars, what do you want them to say?
The reality is that UK plays in the most brutal conference in college football, and is years behind Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. At least a couple of years behind Vandy, maybe more.

quote:

We will not win a National Championship at UK but we are going to beat a lot of people in the SEC.

If Stoops recruits as well as he has started, and remains dedicated to UK, maybe, maybe in 3-4 years we will have a winning record in the SEC, maybe. I don't think we have had one since '77.

No. His bowl record since the NC in 2001.
2013 - blowout loss to A&M
2009 - lost to Florida
2008 - blowout loss to WVA
2007 - Lost to Boise State
2005 - blowout loss to USC
2004 - loss to LSU
2002 - beat Arkansas

His record against the SEC and quality teams is abysmal since his NC. I hope Mark doesn't follow in his footsteps. This is not the big12, it's the SEC.

nepotism never works. Derek is not Vince Dooley. Michael Jordan's 2 sons suck at basketball

And Rex Ryan is not Buddy Ryan. Hell even Jim Mora is a better coach than Jim Mora Jr. IMO
